WELCOME
Hard the herald angels sing/king of heaven
Hark. Written by Charles Wesley who wrote over 6000 hymns
His brother was John Wesley founder of the umc
His desire to teach poor and illetirate people of the time sound doctrine
He heard the bells of the church on Christmas day in London and wrote a poem entitled Hark
And it was in 1753 that George Whitfield turned that poem into a song.
This song is a beautiful representation of the gospel
Light and life to all he brings, Risen with healing in his wings; Mild, he lays his glory by, Born that man no more may die, Born to raise the sons of earth, Born to give them second birth: Hark! the herald angels sing Glory to the newborn King.
Angels we have heard on high
James chadwick
Luke 2
Gloria in excelsis Deo
Luke 2:14
English Standard Version
14 “Glory to God in the highest,     and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!”
Definition: Glory to God in the Highest
Now we know that the shepherds sang
We are not sure about angels..
It starts with one angel but then it says a multitude of heavenly hosts join
The angel and
We see it in Luke 2:13..scripture doesn’t really teach if they sang or not it says Praising God and saying.. but the word for saying there is difficult in the original language.. so it is possible that they sang.
But chadwick does a good job wth vs 3 here in the song
Come to Bethlehem and see Him whose birth the angels sing; Come, adore on bended knee, Christ the Lord, the newborn King.
This song is worship.. singing to Christ because he worthy
May our songs travel through our town and city may we sing his praises everywhere we go just like the shepherds sang and shared with all they met on their return from the newborn King!
O come all ye faithful
This song has an unknown writer
Job 38:7
English Standard Version
7 when the morning stars sang together     and all the sons of God shouted for joy?
Revelation 5:8-10 (ESV)
8 And when he had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each holding a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints. 9 And they sang a new song, saying,
“Worthy are you to take the scroll     and to open its seals, for you were slain, and by your blood you ransomed people for God     from every tribe and language and people and nation, 10 and you have made them a kingdom and priests to our God,     and they shall reign on the earth.”
MAGI
Matthew 2:11
New International Version
11 On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.

Midnight clear/lovesong
Luke 2:14 (ESV)
“Glory to God in the highest,     and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!”
Luke 2:14 (KJV)
14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.
those on whom God’s favor rests
Now, through Jesus’ human birth and ultimately through his sacrificial death on the cross on our behalf, peace with God is available to those who become recipients of divine favor through faith in God’s beloved Son
peace on earth, good will toward men vs those on whom God’s favor rests
Glory goes to God in heaven
The peace goes to men on earth
The word we have to figure out is pleasure
there is a discussion between nominative case or genitive case
Marks cake is good. Vs Marks good cake
Looking at the earliest manuscripts it appears that
This is more the genitive case in that it is
God’s good pleasure
who God’s good pleasure rests or falls upon
With whom he is pleased!
Luke 2:10 (KJV)
10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
O come Emmanuel
Pray written in the sixth century that had 7 parts and it was the last part of the pray.. Emmanuel O with us is God
In 1710 it was made into a hymn in latin and in 1861 was translated into English.. originally it was Draw nigh, draw nigh Emmanuel.. but later changed to O come o come
The prayer is actually one that the isrealites prayed asking God to rescue them from their afflictions.. the wanted a king but instead God sent a child..
Vs 4
O come, Desire of nations, bind
A call for the desire of nations to come
Haggai 2:7
7 And I will shake all nations, so that the treasures of all nations shall come in, and I will fill this house with glory, says the Lord of hosts.
All peoples in one heart and mind;
Every knee will bow and confess Jesus as Lord
Romans 14:11 (ESV)
11 for it is written,
“As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to me,     and every tongue shall confess[a] to God.”
Philippians 2:10-11 (ESV)
10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Bid envy, strife and quarrels cease; Fill the whole world with heaven’s peace.
John 17:20-23 (ESV)
20 “I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, 21 that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me. 22 The glory that you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one, 23 I in them and you in me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me.
Joy to the world – Isaac Watts
Based on..
Psalm 98:4-9 (ESV)
4 Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth;     break forth into joyous song and sing praises! 5 Sing praises to the Lord with the lyre,     with the lyre and the sound of melody! 6 With trumpets and the sound of the horn     make a joyful noise before the King, the Lord!
7 Let the sea roar, and all that fills it;     the world and those who dwell in it! 8 Let the rivers clap their hands;     let the hills sing for joy together 9 before the Lord, for he comes     to judge the earth. He will judge the world with righteousness,     and the peoples with equity.
This is the most of all interesting songs we sing during Christmas
It is more about Jesus 2nd coming than anything
Revelation 19:11-16 (ESV)
11 Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! The one sitting on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war. 12 His eyes are like a flame of fire, and on his head are many diadems, and he has a name written that no one knows but himself. 13 He is clothed in a robe dipped in[a]blood, and the name by which he is called is The Word of God. 14 And the armies of heaven, arrayed in fine linen, white and pure, were following him on white horses. 15 From his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations, and he will rule them with a rod of iron. He will tread the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty. 16 On his robe and on his thigh he has a name written, King of kings and Lord of lords.
