Proverbs 18:21 ESV
Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.
Life and Death are in your mouth. You can build up, or you can destroy. It’s entirely up to you. They deserved it you say. Maybe? But is it our job to cut them down? Or is Gods?
The American church gets all hot and enraged over abortion and homosexuality. These indeed are grievous sins, that need to be dealt with, but they are paper tigers compared to the damage that slander, gossip, and division have caused in church. We like to blame culture, Its Hollywood, its this its that. No It’s a church that is asleep.
It’s a church that is in Sin. If the church took god seriously, took Sin seriously, took life seriously. then the power of God would fall and the culture would bow before Jesus. But none of that happens because we play games my friends. We play games, with prayer, we play games with tithing, we play games with loving others. We play games. AS long as Gods house is in ruin, we will never see Gods power fall.
Today, we will pick up where we ended last week and that is on Loving others.
It is not the Democrats fault. It is not the republicans fault. It is not homosexuals fault. It is not planned parenthood's fault. The fault lies oftentimes right here.
[Point to your mouth]
James 3:6–9 ESV
And the tongue is a fire, a world of unrighteousness. The tongue is set among our members, staining the whole body, setting on fire the entire course of life, and set on fire by hell. For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and sea creature, can be tamed and has been tamed by mankind, but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse people who are made in the likeness of God.

Set on Fire by Hell.

God Redeem our mouths. Redeem our hearts.
I have grown up in church and seen time and time again, people profess Christ then turn around and curse their brother or sister in the Lord.
How can this be? I have heard it in this church. gossip, did you see that did you see this?
Those words, done in secret are sin. categorically sin. Infinitely more destructive that Woke culture.
It break the church down from the inside out.
Why do you get a house inspection? Because it can look pretty on the outside, but be destroyed by termites on the inside.
In the same way a church, can look great but be broken.
As I was praying this week, the Lord check me when I said something. I don’t even remember what it was. I thought, Careless words are dangerous.
Quick comments, destructive. Silent hypocrisy's, fatal.
Why pastor? I don’t say it? Because If you think it, you will be unable to love one another.
If I look at one, anyone, and I see anything other than a child of God. I am at fault. Not them. That does not mean that we overlook their faults.
If we cannot learn to see past their faults and help one another grow without WW3 breaking out, something is wrong.

Step Back, Breathe, Move Forward

Woke culture has nothing on slander.

These public sins, are just smoke and mirrors designed by the enemy to distract you and I from ourselves. From our own tongues.
But pastor, I don’t gossip. Praise God. I so thankful that isn’t a struggle for you. Follow me now to the verse that started this whole sermon.
Psalm 101:5 ESV
Whoever slanders his neighbor secretly I will destroy. Whoever has a haughty look and an arrogant heart I will not endure.
Now the Psalmist David is saying slandering in secret is evil.
wait I thought just gossip, one to another, but what about the quiet, slanders that no one else hears. the slander in our hearts. secret slander. God hates it.
Slander in Secret leads to slander in the open.
My friend Secret Slander, is not secret and it destroys those around you. If there are issues within our hearts we must take them to to the father so that we can receive a new heart and a new mind.
James 3:9 ESV
With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse people who are made in the likeness of God.
WE curse those who are made in Gods image. So when we are hating/slandering anyone we are attacking a child of God, whom He loves. You cannot expect the blessing of God in any area when there is malice towards another in a single area. We must be baptised in love for one another so that our hearts will no longer express animosity or malice but love and generosity.
It ultimate isn’t about your tongue. It’s about your heart.

Its All About Your Heart

Matthew 15:18–20 ESV
But what comes out of the mouth proceeds from the heart, and this defiles a person. For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false witness, slander. These are what defile a person. But to eat with unwashed hands does not defile anyone.”
Jesus makes it clear that our tongues themselves are not the issue. It is the heart from which the words flow.
Closing:
If you have slander in your heart there is only one way to rid it and that is to come before a holy God and repent.
Do not tell me you are serious about the things of God while you hold slander in your heart. your are not serious. You are child that to repent.
