PURPOSE OVER POPULARITY
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What are we now? Essentially, we are the SumTotal of the choices that we've made.
Who are we today? We're a result of the choices that we've made in the past.
Who will we be tomorrow? Essentially, the decisions that we're making today will determine who we become and what we're able to do tomorrow. Our choices matter.
Imagine a world: Everyone likes you. Approves of you. Admires you.
Hod on to your seat
Not possible. Never happen. (Laugh)
You are never going to please everyone and not everyone is going to like you.
Imagine a world ( God wants this to happen )
· You don’t care that much what others think.
· So focused on pleasing God and loving God
· People’s approval doesn’t consume you
· Or it doesn’t even bother you what they think about you
· You are full of passion and purpose in your life
Knowing that you are doing what God has called you to do
like a burning flame in your heart drives you and moves you forward.
We can hold firm on this promises
Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
Even Job when he was going through the worst part of his life he could say.
Job 42:1-2 Then Job replied to God: 2 “2 "I know that you can do all things and that no purpose of yours can be ruined.
But before all of that happens you will have to make this your mission
I choose
Purpose over popularity
Many of us (by default) choose the opposite.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What do you think of me?
Do you like my music?
Do you like the school I went to?
Do you like my update on Facebook?
Instagram?
Do you like the filter I used?
· I remember when we bought and old little hose that had a bunch of walls. I have been watching a bunch of DIY houses shows they would come in and Knock down walls and add walls where they wanted them
Ø So I called my friend who is a contractor and told him I am ready to knock down walls and rip carpet
He said slow down PM you can’t do that and or course my answer was WHY?
He explain to me about the concept of load bearing walls and If I would remove some them it will cause the ceiling to cave in.
There are things in life that have and amazing purpose
Like those walls
Think about this: If you don't know the purpose of a thing, all you can do is misuse the thing.
Here is the problem So many of us don’t know the purpose of the our lives
· If you want to know the purpose if the thing you don’t ask the thing you as the one who created the thing.
· Before long, so many of us, without even knowing it, we literally are living for the approval of people.
· We're trying to find our meaning in what other people think and we're forgetting that God created us for a divine purpose.
· If you want to know the purpose if the thing you don’t ask the thing you as the one who created the thing.
This are some things you need to know
· LIVING FOR THE APPROVAL OF PEOPLE KEEPS YOU FROM THE PURPOSESOF GOD.
* Anytime we're consumed with what people think about us, we tend to forget what God thinks about us.
* The fastest way to forget what God thinks about us is to be obsessed with what people think about us.
I want to give you an example of someone who did this?
Background of his life
Moses—Hebrew slave raised by Egyptian royalty!
He chose Comfort—Calling.
He chose Popularity—Purpose.
24 By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be known as the son of Pharaoh’s daughter. 25 He chose to be mistreated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin. 26 He regarded disgrace for the sake of Christ as of greater value than the treasures of Egypt, because he was looking ahead to his reward. Hebrews 11:24
He chose Calling over Comfort
He chose Purpose over Popularity.
· When you find your WHY, you don't hit snooze no more!
· “Never allow anyone to destroy God’s divine purpose within you through their opinion.”
THE POWER OF PURPOSE
Let’s disarm /demystify the word purpose
The first thing that comes up when we talk about purpose we always think of the Huge purpose
What am I here to do ?
What do I supposed to do ?
Lets think a little bit different today not the capital letter purpose but the lower case purpose
let’s think that day after day moment after moment we are serving and are within our purpose the lower case purpose
Let me give you some examples
· You talk to someone who has a need and you recognize I can meet that need
· someone is having a hard day you stop and buy them a cup of coffee and ask them about their day.
· You go to quick trip and you pay for someone’s doughnuts
Gods purpose for me in this moment
Don’t think about big
Paul calls it walking by the spirit and pray with out seasing
And the more faithfull we are in the small p
He will trust us with the big P
Its heart issue
We shouldn’t serve in the small things always thinking I cant wait to get to the big things
We serve not to get anything but because first loved us.
When we are faithfull and it becomes part of you to walk in God purpose for your life than he will start trusting you with the big P
The reason he does this is not to hurt you its because he loves you and knows if you trust him you are to be fulfilled
He will trust you when the time is right
I am call to serve and walk in his purpose
THE POWER OF PURPOSE
Let me give you 3 thoughts
· PURPOSE DIMINISHES DISTRACTIONS.
One of the biggest distractions for most of us is the curse of comparing.
She’s already finished school. He’s making more money than I am.
All my friends are married already, Don’t even own a house, Way behind.
Purpose diminishes distractions
Nehemiah—
Heart broken that the walls being broken down
Hint – what breaks your heart – might be a sign of your purpose
He is on the wall working laying stone
Two enemies sambalat and tobias
What doest Nehemiah do ( he has the voices of doubt and discouragement screaming at him what does he do? )
Looks down and basicle says – I dodnt have time for that
· Quick tip don’t listen to the voice that have not proven themselves in your life – if they have not invested in your life tell them I don’t have time for that
· I am fulfilling Gods purpose in this moment I don”t have time for your negativity and nagging.
Doing a great work—Can’t come down!
The enemy will always will try to distract you
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Nehemiah 6:3
So I sent messengers to them, saying, “I am doing a great work, so that I cannot come down. Why should the work cease while I leave it and go down to you?”
“I am doing a great work, so that I cannot come down
Ø Why are you brining a brown bag to office for lunch—Great work.
Ø Why are you staying pure in a world of lust—Great work.
Ø Are you sure you are supposed to be stay home parent?
Purpose diminishes distractions!
Stay busy serving and loving and the distractions will not see as important
The haters will always be there – running their mouth
“I am doing a great work, so that I cannot come down
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
· PURPOSE PUSHES YOU THROUGH THE PAIN.
The pathway to your purpose is paved with pain.
Moses—David—Nehemiah, Ester, Mary, Jesus!
Doing what God calls you to do—others won’t like it—won’t understand.
Purpose pushes you through pain.
Having a baby—Not that bad—Watermelon out of garden hose.
I gave birth to two beautiful pebbles ( kidney stone ) scream like a little girl
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
How do you handle the critics? So many people don’t like you.
Nothing easy—Purpose pushes you through!
Start and it gets hard—Purpose pushes you on!
Critics can’t stop you. Obstacles won’t deter you. Pain won’t slow you!
You get up earlier. Work harder. Stay later. Purpose drives you.
You can’t—with Christ I can.
You won’t—with Christ I will.
Purpose pushes you through the pain.
"This is what I'm supposed to do," critics can't stop you. Opposition doesn't deter you. Pain doesn't slow you. I was created for this.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
· PURPOSE EMPOWERS YOU TO PLEASE GOD.
When Pharaoh tried to stop Moses—Moses wasn’t deterred.
When the people complained, criticized, rebelled—Moses stayed on task.
Purpose empowers you to please God.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Peter and other apostles preached Christ—religious leaders—STOP!
Peter and the other apostles replied: “We must obey God rather than human beings! Acts 5:29
We can’t please everyone—but we can please God.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Choice—I choose Purpose over Popularity!
26 [Moses] regarded disgrace for the sake of Christ as of greater value than the treasures of Egypt, because he was looking ahead to his reward. Hebrews 11:26
· Value in being liked by people Greater value: loved by God.
· Value having fun with friends Greater value: faithful to God.
· Value start something import Greater in finishing!
· Value in comfort Greater value in calling!
· Value in being popular Greater value serving God’s purp
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I Choose Purpose over Popularity!
Power in Purpose!
Eliminates distractions, push thru pain, empowers to please God.
Can’t please everyone—can please God.
