22 Immediately he made the disciples get into the boat and go before him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowds. 23 And after he had dismissed the crowds, he went up on the mountain by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone, 24 but the boat by this time was a long way from the land, beaten by the waves, for the wind was against them. 25 And in the fourth watch of the night he came to them, walking on the sea. 26 But when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were terrified, and said, “It is a ghost!” and they cried out in fear. 27 But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Take heart; it is I. Do not be afraid.”

28 And Peter answered him, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.” 29 He said, “Come.” So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water and came to Jesus. 30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, “Lord, save me.” 31 Jesus immediately reached out his hand and took hold of him, saying to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” 32 And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased. 33 And those in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”

Walking with Jesus

1. Find time with God

Jesus’ Example
Don’t let chaos of the day neglect you from spending time with God

2. Life is Rough

“Winds and Waves” of Life
we can get a long way from “shore”
We get scared

3. Don’t let fear sink your faith

Let the object of your faith be bigger than your fear
Object vs Size
When Jesus refers to Peter’s faith as “little” , he was not primarily referring to faith as something subjective that we must create. Instead, what matters is the object of your faith. Peter’s faith was little because he took his eyes off Jesus, the object of his faith. This is what caused Peter to sink. The point, then, is clear: Your faith is strong only when the object of your faith is strong. As long as your faith is in circumstances, or as long as your faith is focused on something that can fail, (anything apart from Christ) then it won’t matter how much faith you have because the the object of your faith will fail. Sooner or later. Strength comes from the Lord, the Object of our Faith.
b. Keep your eyes on Jesus because He is Strong
When your eyes are on Jesus, you can rest secure. Jesus is peace around you. Jesus is constant. Your Faith will be constant. Heb 12:2 . Instead of trying to be stronger, trust in Jesus, Trust in Jesus’ strength. He is strong.
c. Keep your eyes on Jesus because He is Peace
Encouragement to persevere during trials and temptations, our “winds and waves”
