There are some places we just do not fit it
We who belive in Jesus are not of this world
John 17:14-15 (ESV)
14 I have given them your word, and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. 15 I do not ask that you take them out of the world, but that you keep them from the evil one
The truth is the Church does not fit in this world..
If you believe Jesus you are different
First b/c
You are not of this world.
Hebrews 11:8-16 (ESV)
8 By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to a place that he was to receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going. 9 By faith he went to live in the land of promise, as in a foreign land, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, heirs with him of the same promise. 10 For he was looking forward to the city that has foundations, whose designer and builder is God.
13 These all died in faith, not having received the things promised, but having seen them and greeted them from afar, and having acknowledged that they were strangers and exiles on the earth. 14 For people who speak thus make it clear that they are seeking a homeland. 15 If they had been thinking of that land from which they had gone out, they would have had opportunity to return. 16 But as it is, they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore, God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared for them a city.

1 Peter 2:11-12 (Message)
Friends, this world is not your home, so don’t make yourselves cozy in it. Don’t indulge your ego at the expense of your soul. Live an exemplary life in your neighborhood so that your actions will refute their prejudices. Then they’ll be won over to God’s side and be there to join in the celebration when he arrives.
We have been purchased by the blood of Christ- therefore we belong to Him not the world We have a citizenship in heaven
Those are two major things that make us different by definition. think about how different in lifestyle? Webster dictionary about the word alien or foregner said: "differing in nature or character typically to the point of incompatibility".
It is not about who carries the biggest Bible or sings the loudest Hymn or who attends the most church services or give the most
Are you an "alien and stranger" in your attitudes, actions, and thoughts.
Why is it when bad things happen they don’t cus or get angry
Why is it when they are sick they are not afraid
Why is it when the world hates them they still love?
Why do you invest in God and not the world?
..scripture asks what if you gain the who world but lose your soul. Matthew 16:10
If you are going to be different
Grow up
Ephesians 4:15 (ESV)
15 Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ,
Jesus said be perfect like I am perfect
This is our first investment
Repent
Acts 3:19 (ESV)
19 Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out,
Until we confess, we carry the burden of shame and guilt.. psalm 51 David cries out for God to blot out his transgressions.. wipe away.. obliterate..

David says create in me a clean heart
Faith in Jesus
Acts 4:12 (ESV)
And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men[a] by which we must be saved.”
John 14:6 (ESV)
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
Ephesians 4:15 paul speaks in truth in love..
First he Grew up in Christ and was able to do this by Knowing the truth..
Know the truth
We grow in Christ, his word, his truth
In
Matthew 4:4 (ESV)
“It is written,“‘Man shall not live by bread alone,
but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” Jesus tempted by satan
So we get to know the truth and then are put to the test of truth. Jesus is quoting this passage
Deuteronomy 8:2-3 (ESV)
2 And you shall remember the whole way that the Lord your God has led you these forty years in the wilderness, that he might humble you, testing you to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep his commandments or not. 3 And he humbled you and let you hunger and fed you with manna, which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, that he might make you know that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.
So we need to know what Christ taught and then follow it
Humble test obedience
This is how we grow..
John 4:34 (ESV)
Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to accomplish his work.

Testing
The test is will you trust God’s way more than your way?
1 peter 1:6-7 (ESV)
In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, 7 so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
2 Corinthians 5:7 (ESV)
for we walk by faith, not by sight.
In order to be different
Walk worthy. Obedience part
Ephesians 4:1-3 (ESV)
4 I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, 2 with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, 3 eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
Are we looking to show the world how to live or tell the world how to live?
Humility prisoner of the Lord
Proverbs 16:18 (ESV)
18 Pride goes before destruction,
and a haughty spirit before a fall.
Does your life point people to you or Jesus
Matthew 23:27 (ESV)
27 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs, which outwardly appear beautiful, but within are full of dead people's bones and all uncleanness.
Cemetery pic
Part of the major issues of the Pharisees whas that they judged others instead of looking at them selves
Paul says this and warns the church
1 Corinthians 5:12 (ESV)
12 For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Is it not those inside the church whom you are to judge?
We must be careful as the church to check each other at the door first. Before we start attacking the world.
Gentleness
Serve
Rich young ruler
Mark 10:22-23 (ESV)
Disheartened by the saying, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.
23 And Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, “How difficult it will be for those who have wealth to enter the kingdom of God!”
Eager to maintain unity
Patience
Psalm 37:7 (ESV)
Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him;
fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way,
over the man who carries out evil devices!
Do you trust God.. do you trust he has a plan Do you trust his timing and the circumstances in your life are just what he wants?
Love
1 peter 4:8 (ESV)
Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins.
Until unity Francis chan says
In the church we divide easily because we love shallowly. .. our differences aren’t caused by a AZqw23 c
Being different
“Once you become aware that the main business that you are here for is to know God, most of life's problems fall into place of their own accord.”
― J.I. Packer, Knowing God
At macc we have a saying yv
Hebrews 12:2 (ESV)
looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
