Not lets set this up for a moment.. remember Jesus was just killed by the Jews for claiming he ws the messiah.. it is why he was put on the cross…
So what does peter do
He proves it…
Preach that Jesus is the messiah
Jesus life proved he was the messiah
Acts 2:22-24 (ESV)
22 “Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a man attested to you by God with mighty works and wonders and signs that God did through him in your midst, as you yourselves know— 23 this Jesus, delivered up according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God, you crucified and killed by the hands of lawless men. 24 God raised him up, loosing the pangs of death, because it was not possible for him to be held by it.
Two things peter uses here
Signs and wonders
John 21:25 (ESV)
Now there are also many other things that Jesus did. Were every one of them to be written, I suppose that the world itself could not contain the books that would be written.

356 prophecies came true in Jesus life
the odds of your being injured by a lightning strike on any given day are only 1 in 250 million, but over the average lifetime are 1 in 9,100?
lightening
The probability that Jesus of Nazareth could have fulfilled even eight such prophecies would be only 1 in 1017. That's 1 in 100, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000.
Death and resurrection
Who put Jesus to death?
Pharisees? Saducees, roman rulers.. the angry crowd?
Luke reported Peter saying to the crowd
you crucified and killed by the hands of lawless men.
Who raised Jesus from the grave
God raised him up.. not possible for death to even hold him..
Romans 5:18
English Standard Version
18 Therefore, as one trespass led to condemnation for all men, so one act of righteousness leads to justification and life for all men.
God Raising Jesus from the dead and Jesus ascending into heaven. Shows us that Christ did what was needed to atone for our sins. He proved himself to his father.. even..other wise God would of said..not enough..go back down there is more work to do.
A promise to those who know the Messiah
Acts 2:25-28 (ESV)
25 For David says concerning him,
“‘I saw the Lord always before me,
for he is at my right hand that I may not be shaken;
26 therefore my heart was glad, and my tongue rejoiced;
my flesh also will dwell in hope.
27 For you will not abandon my soul to Hades,
or let your Holy One see corruption.
28 You have made known to me the paths of life;
you will make me full of gladness with your presence.’
Now peter goes to David someone the people would not refute..
Not be Shaken
Olivia—mom lost her son—dear friend Debbie Wallace found her cancer isn’t in remission—oh God would we trust in you..
An oak for the Lord
Isaiah 61:3 (ESV)
3 to grant to those who mourn in Zion—
to give them a beautiful headdress instead of ashes,
the oil of gladness instead of mourning,
the garment of praise instead of a faint spirit;
that they may be called oaks of righteousness,
the planting of the Lord, that he may be glorified.
God loves you
David said the Lord is always before me
He is beside me letting me know its ok

Prove that Jesus is Lord
Acts 2:29-35 (ESV)
29 “Brothers, I may say to you with confidence about the patriarch David that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day. 30 Being therefore a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him that he would set one of his descendants on his throne, 31 he foresaw and spoke about the resurrection of the Christ, that he was not abandoned to Hades, nor did his flesh see corruption. 32 This Jesus God raised up, and of that we all are witnesses. 33 Being therefore exalted at the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he has poured out this that you yourselves are seeing and hearing.34 For David did not ascend into the heavens, but he himself says,
“‘The Lord said to my Lord,
“Sit at my right hand,
35 until I make your enemies your footstool.”’
All Jewish people knew that the messiah would be a descendant of David
Psalm 132:11 (ESV)
The Lord swore to David a sure oath
from which he will not turn back:
“One of the sons of your body
I will set on your throne.
Psalm 110:1
Peter is proclaiming that Jesus is sitting on the right hand of God.. that Jesus is God
Psalm 16:8-10
Peter is saying that David was speaking of Jesus not himself here..and there is a great promise even for those already in the grave.
Peter wants us to understand that Jesus is Lord because he was resurrected by God himself
John MacArthur wrote, "The resurrection is the crowning proof that God accepted the sacrifice of Jesus Christ"
Later in the song amazing grace.. is the part that goes..
Twas grace that taught my heart to fear and grace my fears relieved, how precious did that grace appear the hour I first believed.. why because know I have been resurrected by God!
For the Jews.. David’s words were gold.. well if David said it ..must be true.. it is why peter uses them…
Philippians 2:5-8 (ESV)
5 Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus,[a] 6 who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped,[b] 7 but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant,[c]being born in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.
Our response proves that we know the Messiah
Acts 2:36-39 (ESV)
36 Let all the house of Israel therefore know for certain that God has made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified.”
37 Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?” 38 And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.39 For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself.”
Peters plea
He asks in vs 36.. do you know the one who can save you?
Are you convicted
Acts 2:37a (ESV)
37 Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart
United States Senate Chaplain Richard Halverson. In it he wrote:
“The fact is, the birth, crucifixion, and bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ are celebrated worldwide by folk of every race, language, and color, every year. And believing in Jesus, they have been delivered from the most evil, disastrous, frustrating, debilitating habits and life forms possible. The real problem with Jesus Christ is not that folk can't believe in Him—but that they won't believe in Him.”
Hebrews 4:12 (ESV)
12 For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
Are you Changed
When you are convicted how do you respond…
Adam and Eve? Moses.. killed a man and hid him in the sand.. ran.. rich young ruler turned from Christ..
Acts 37 (ESV)
37 Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?”
Acts 2:38 (ESV)
“Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde
Two face
Have you repented of your sin?
Repentance is not just saying I am sorry, but its changing your pattern of life
One small step towards submitting to Jesus..
Admit you have sinned
2 Samuel 12:13 (ESV)
13 David said to Nathan, “I have sinned against the Lord.” And Nathan said to David, “The Lord also has put away your sin; you shall not die.
Grieve your sin
1 Kings 21:27-29 (ESV)
27 And when Ahab heard those words, he tore his clothes and put sackcloth on his flesh and fasted and lay in sackcloth and went about dejectedly.28 And the word of the Lord came to Elijah the Tishbite, saying, 29 “Have you seen how Ahab has humbled himself before me? Because he has humbled himself before me, I will not bring the disaster in his days; but in his son's days I will bring the disaster upon his house.”
Confess your sin to God
Psalm 32:3 (ESV)
For when I kept silent, my bones wasted away
through my groaning all day long.
4 For day and night your hand was heavy upon me; my strength was dried up as by the heat of summer.5 I acknowledged my sin to you, and I did not cover my iniquity; I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,” and you forgave the iniquity of my sin.
Confess your sin to another
jJames 5:16 (ESV)
16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.
Find scripture
Psalm 119:11 (ESV)
I have stored up your word in my heart,
that I might not sin against you
Have you been obedient to the God’s word?
Baptism is used here because it is an outward evidence of repentance
38 And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins,
Have you seen the fruits of the Spirit in your life?
Are you living a forgiven life?
you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit
Do you realize you are part of the kingdom?
39 For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself.”
Ephesians 2:13-19 (ESV)
13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. 14 For he himself is our peace, who has made us both one and has broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility
17 And he came and preached peace to you who were far off and peace to those who were near. 18 For through him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father. 19 So then you are no longer strangers and aliens,[a] but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God,
Romans 10:9-10 (ESV)
because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.
