Monday, March 20 - Psalm 121:1-8 - Where does help come from?
This passage begins by asking the important question about where our help comes from. The answer given in the verses that follow clearly answer that God is our source of help.
He is always reliable, always watching and aware of our situation. In addition he is actively protecting us from harm, both day and night. The passage closes with a promise of protection.
It is important that we realize that this does not guarantee that we will never encounter trials. Sometimes God has other purposes to accomplish in our lives. The important truth is that nothing can happen to us that God does not know about and allow.
Tuesday, March 21 - Psalm 6:1-10 - In hard times
This passage follows a familiar pattern in the book of Psalms. It begins with an honest outpouring of the psalmist’s deepest feelings. Sometimes we think that we have to filter how we really feel when we talk to God. God desires our honesty!
The Psalm then concludes with a statement of hope about God’s answer to his prayer. It is unclear whether the psalmist is referring to his own experience of God’s answer or whether this is a confident statement of what he expects God will do.
Wednesday, March 22 - Psalm 8:1-9 - How majestic is your name
The psalmist begins and ends this psalm with the statement “Lord our Lord, How majestic is your name in all the earth!” In between these statements he comments on several observations from creation, history and personal experience that support is conclusion.
Try creating your own list of evidence that the name of God is majestic.
Thursday, March 23 - Psalm 14:1-7 The Fool
God uses this psalm to define and give examples of what constitutes a fool. The fool is when who rejects the existence of God and then follows through with decisions and actions consistent with a godless way of life. Repeatedly, he cites that God is a refuge of the righteous even as fools run rampant. He concludes in praying for God’s salvation and restoration.
Friday, March 24 - Psalm 19:1-14 - The heavens declare God's glory
This passage is divided into two parts. The first six verses focus on how God has been revealed in His creation. Without words, the creation speaks volumes about the splendor and wisdom of God.
The rest of the psalm reflects on how God’s Word, the Bible, reveals even more about God. Look for the synonyms for the scriptures that occur in these verses and for the variety of benefits found in studying and obeying God’s Word.
The value and pleasure found in God’s Word is noted in verse 10 as the Bible is compared to gold and honey.
The last verse is a prayer for our study of God’s word to be pleasing to God.
