Psalm 138:2 NKJV
2 I will worship toward Your holy temple, And praise Your name For Your lovingkindness and Your truth; For You have magnified Your word above all Your name.
God’s “Word” =2 Greek Words - Logos & Rhema
Logos is the Written Word
Rhema is the God-breathed, spoken word
Logos & Rehma are NEVER in contradiction to one another.
Name (def.) - mark or memorial of individuality; by impl. honor, authority, character
God decided that what He has said should be bigger than & above any mark or memorial of individuality; and above any honor, authority, character:—
Make what God has said greater than our individuality, our honor, our authority, or our character.
...What God has said about our state of being, our personality, our history, our qualifications, our shortcomings, etc.
Judge your experiences by the word of God rather than judge the word of God by your experiences.
We align ourself with the Word of God!
Every time we treat the Word of God, the Bible, as optional to obey or believe, we create a habit pattern that when we NEED it to have authority in our life, we are going to have to fight to believe it.
If we won’t obey God in the simple & easy, we will not be able to obey God in the difficult & unusual.

The Word as the Authority & Standard:

The role of the Word of God is to tell us who God is and to tell us who we are & to provide the instruction manual for our life.
When we place the Bible as the absolute standard of our life, we will live differently.
But what happens if I don’t feel like what the Bible says is true?
Try it and see what happens!
Malachi 3:10 NKJV
10 Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, That there may be food in My house, And try Me now in this,” Says the Lord of hosts, “If I will not open for you the windows of heaven And pour out for you such blessing That there will not be room enough to receive it.
God dares us to trust Him & follow His commands and see the fruit.
It’s just as easy to believe as it is to doubt. It is simply a choice we make.
Mark 9:23 NKJV
23 Jesus said to him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.”
Make a decision to hear what God says - then believe it, then do it, then become it.

Why it doesn’t work:

It being, the blessing of God, the peace of God, the healing of God.
Why am I not experiencing every promise of the word of God?
One thing I am absolutely sure about is that
It is NOT God’s fault.
Many things in the Bible are covenants and not promises.
A covenant is a contract - a 2-party agreement.

1. We don’t actually do the whole Contract Agreement.

Saul - a case study:

1 Samuel 15:1–3 NKJV
1 Samuel also said to Saul, “The Lord sent me to anoint you king over His people, over Israel. Now therefore, heed the voice of the words of the Lord. 2 Thus says the Lord of hosts: ‘I will punish Amalek for what he did to Israel, how he ambushed him on the way when he came up from Egypt. 3 Now go and attack Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and do not spare them. But kill both man and woman, infant and nursing child, ox and sheep, camel and donkey.’ ”
1 Samuel 15:13–15 NKJV
13 Then Samuel went to Saul, and Saul said to him, “Blessed are you of the Lord! I have performed the commandment of the Lord.” 14 But Samuel said, “What then is this bleating of the sheep in my ears, and the lowing of the oxen which I hear?” 15 And Saul said, “They have brought them from the Amalekites; for the people spared the best of the sheep and the oxen, to sacrifice to the Lord your God; and the rest we have utterly destroyed.”
1 Samuel 15:17 NKJV
17 So Samuel said, “When you were little in your own eyes, were you not head of the tribes of Israel? And did not the Lord anoint you king over Israel?
Saul’s disobedience to God’s words was a result of pride.
Saul had the title of King, but seemed to forget who gave him that position.
Pride can deceive us into thinking we are doing better than we actually are.
Through the years, I’ve had multiple people tell me (sometimes I’ve told myself the same thing) that they have totally been 100% doing the word of God, but it doesn’t work.
Get some truth-tellers around you who love you!

2. We don’t give The Word enough time & consistency:

How long did it take you to get to where you are today?
What if it takes even 1/2 that long to get back to the start?
Most of us want instantaneous results with zero effort or struggle.
We want the magic pill that we don’t have to change anything, but everything changes.
Jesus is not a magic pill - but He is the answer!
Example of a diet.
The more time we spend “off-program” the longer the transformation takes.
Michael Phelps worked out 365 days a year for 5 years straight & look where that got him.
Deuteronomy 6:5 NKJV
5 You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.
John 14:15 NKJV
15 “If you love Me, keep My commandments.

Just One Thing:

The role of the Word of God is transformative.
Follow it Completely + Follow it Consistently Over Time = Whole Life Metamorphosis
Satisfaction Guarantee - If you are dissatisfied, you can have your old life back.

Discussion Questions:

What’s legal now, but probably won’t be in 25 years?
So far, how would you describe the role that you’ve given the Word of God in your life, personally?
Please read 1 Samuel 15’s account of the battle with the Amalekites and share what you learned & personally apply through observing what Saul did.
If you’d like the Word of God to work better in your life, what is at least 1 thing you will practically do to get the results that God made a contract with you about?
