Elisha and the Widow’s Oil

Nature of the World

A certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets cried out to Elisha, saying, “Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that your servant feared the LORD. And the creditor is coming to take my two sons to be his slaves.”

We see a threat to the family of this woman. The creditor is coming to take the two sons
Quite a big problem if you think about it
She lost her husband and will loose her 2 sons

Solution igniter is within you

So Elisha said to her, “What shall I do for you? Tell me, what do you have in the house?”

What do you have in your house? Its very interesting to see this in the scripture. We often seek the solution outside. But the solution starts with inside!
It reminds me of the occasion of 5 loves and 2 fish to 5000 thousand

But He said to them, “How many loaves do you have? Go and see.”

The start/ignition to solutions/answers to our problems are often in us(symbolically) than around us.

And when they found out they said, “Five, and two fish.”

The solution for the problem starts with us!

God can use whatever you’ve Got - Bring it to the altar

And she said, “Your maidservant has nothing in the house but a jar of oil.”

That’s all she had in her house. God uses whatever little/big you’ve got to work with it.

God Needs Empty Vessels

Then he said, “Go, borrow vessels from everywhere, from all your neighbors—empty vessels; do not gather just a few.

It wasn’t single mans work!
Its interesting we see the word empty vessels. God needs empty vessels to fix problems. Few thoughts
Only empty vessels can be filled
The empty you are the more you can be filled! (Learner Posture)
When we are living in this world, we do get filled with lots of things, but God wants us to bring empty vessels and he can fill them with purpose and use
There’s not another Vessel, so the oil Ceased

And he said to her, “There is not another vessel.” So the oil ceased

No more empty vessels, no more oil left. For me this speaks a truth, if you dont have an area/vessel that can take oil in it, you can’t grow beyond it.
I dont have any thing to learn,
I am a master in everything.
That’s the end of your growth!
Gods filling will always meet your needs

“Go, sell the oil and pay your debt; and you and your sons live on the rest.”

After she did everything the man of God asked her to, she was advised to go and sell this oil and pay the debt.
What you receive from the LORD is always a sufficient to meet your needs!
What you receive from the world will not meet your needs for the long run and sometimes it cant even meet the needs temporarily
If you can be filled by the LORD, that will be sufficient to meet all your problems/needs/worries/sickness etc.
