True Assurance

Transcript
Truth can comes in two forms. Subjective and objective. Subjective is based upon the subject’s, (meaning who is believing the truth) viewpoint, opinions or perspective. Example if I were to say that pineapple does not go on pizza, that is a subjective truth. Objective is based upon the object that we are believing. We are living in a day with a lot of attacks on truth. Objective truth such as man or woman is now based upon what someone’s feelings. Most of what God has said in His Word is being attacked. From the schools, to the media to entertainment, attacks are relentless on the truth of God’s Word. John is also dealing with people who are promoting falsehood. John is writing against false teachers, who denied that Jesus was real, or really God. John is writing the truth is God gave His Son for us and the life is through the Son. They were saying that through intellect is eternal life. Godliness is knowledge. John is writing what He is, so people can be sure that they have eternal life through believing on the name of the son of God. John is writing so people can be assured of the truth of the eternal life. You must be sure that you believe the truth of eternal life. Truth can be attacked by other people or yourself.
Why can you be sure that you believe the truth?
Witnesses of truth
Witnesses help point people to the truth. Many courts rely on eyewitness testimony to determine whether someone is guilty or innocent. Eyewitness testimonies help people, let’s say if one were to say “so-and-so punched me” I would go and see if there are any witnesses, to back up the story, because otherwise it is one person’s word against another.
John is saying that there are witnesses, in the trinity
Heavenly
Father
John 5:37 “And the Father himself, which hath sent me, hath borne witness of me. Ye have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his shape.”
Hebrews 1:8 “But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom.”
Son
John 1:1 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”
Holy Ghost
John 15:26 “But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:”
This verse is omitted from modern versions, yet was quoted by early church fathers. Also the verse does not make sense in the orignial language if not in there because the “phrase bear record in heaven is masculine” while the “Spirit, water and blood” is in the neuter gender, which means neither male or female. You would not have a masculine verb with a neutered noun. But if you can have the Father, and Son, that makes it masculine, and grammar fits. Even in v. 8 is it masculine, with the earth being feminine and then you answer with a neuter.
Earthly
Holy Spirit-when He descended upon Christ at His Baptism
Water-the water baptistm
Blood-the blood of Calvary, His crucifixion was viewed
John is saying that Christ had the witness of men, but these witnesses from God is greater
How has God testified of Jesus? In the Scriptures
John 5:39 “Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.”
So we need to quit listening to some influencer, or media personality but instead focus on the Word of God
Acceptance of truth
John is writing to the believer that they can know, but it is through believing on the name of the son of God
Ephesians 2:8-9 “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.”
Notice what he says that whoever has the Son has life
John 3:16-18 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.”
John 3:36 “He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.”
John 6:40 “And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.”
John 14:6 “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”
Whoever accepts this truth by faith is saved
