INTRODUCTION: How many of you made a new year’s resolution? How many of you still keeping your new year’s resolution? Gym’s are empty again now, etc because those resolutions weren’t actually true.
8 For he finds fault with them when he says:
“Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord,
when I will establish a new covenant with the house of Israel
and with the house of Judah,
Long quote from Jeremiah 31 ?
finds fault with them - not with the law, but with them.
behold - pay attention.
the days are coming - the question is when.
when I will establish a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah. - Who is this? The Jewish people today. But
Romans 11:17-20 says that we have been grafted into this promise.
17 But if some of the branches were broken off, and you, although a wild olive shoot, were grafted in among the others and now share in the nourishing root of the olive tree, 18 do not be arrogant toward the branches. If you are, remember it is not you who support the root, but the root that supports you. 19 Then you will say, “Branches were broken off so that I might be grafted in.” 20 That is true. They were broken off because of their unbelief, but you stand fast through faith. So do not become proud, but fear.
9 not like the covenant that I made with their fathers
on the day when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt.
For they did not continue in my covenant,
and so I showed no concern for them, declares the Lord.
not like the covenant that I made with their fathers - something completely different.
5 Now therefore, if you will indeed obey my voice and keep my covenant, you shall be my treasured possession among all peoples, for all the earth is mine; 6 and you shall be to me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words that you shall speak to the people of Israel.”
I took them by the hand - I love this, it still shows he loved them.
For they did not continue in my covenant.
they did not continue in my covenant - that was part of the old aggrement. If they did not do there part. God would abandon them.
My kids will try to do this to me - haha
You have the law written on your heart , so obey it. (Hebrews 8:10)

Funny tattoo for Beth.
10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel
after those days, declares the Lord:
I will put my laws into their minds,
and write them on their hearts,
and I will be their God,
and they shall be my people.
laws into their minds - compare to OT - have a box on your head.
put my laws into their minds and write them on their hearts - You know what is right or wrong. Why? The Holy Spirit living inside of you.
You become God’s people, so act like it. (Hebrews 8:11)
You become God’s people, so act like it. (Hebrews 8:11)
There was a great benefits to this.
11 And they shall not teach, each one his neighbor
and each one his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’
for they shall all know me,
from the least of them to the greatest.
4 “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. 5 You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. 6 And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. 7 You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. 8 You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. 9 You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.
shall not - not commanding them, but telling them it isn’t necessary.
they shall all know me - There is no one unsaved in this covenant. Why we baptize people who are actually saved.
You are forgiven, so embrace it. (Hebrews 8:12)
You are forgiven, so embrace it. (Hebrews 8:12)
12 For I will be merciful toward their iniquities,
and I will remember their sins no more.”
I will be merciful toward their iniquities
I will remember their iniquities -
13 In speaking of a new covenant, he makes the first one obsolete. And what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away.
