1. Erased the Certificate of Debt

vs. 14

-Roman execution the sentence is nailed to the cross with you.

-Jesus nailed our sentences to His cross

-He paid our penalty

-Man approaching a toll bridge preparing to pay but being waves through because someone else paid their toll

-A woman pulling up to a drive through window and simply being handed her order because someone else covered the bill.

-You receiving a letter from your mortgage company that your debt is completely cancelled!!

-He paid our debt!

2. Disarmed the rulers & authorities

Vs 15

-“disgraced them publicly” Put them to shame

-Satan (the accuser) stands before God accusing us day & night

-Satan continually lays out before God all of our faults

-Jesus stands as our advocate

- Jesus is our champion

-“triumphed over them” Jesus won the victory

-Satan is like a dog with no teeth or a wasp with no stinger, he cannot harm you because he has no power over you!

-Closing illustration:

An old abandoned building went on the market but got no offers because it was in bad shape. Windows were broken & graffiti all over the exterior walls.

After about 6 months of being on the market the owner raised the price to everyone’s surprise because no work had been done to fix anything.

One of the walls covered with graffiti had been confirmed to be the work of a world famous graffiti artist, his signature was on the work so it increased the value of the messed up building.

Jesus has marked us with His blood, he increases our value!
