CONCLUSIONS ON A WORD STUDY ON “BAPTISM”

By Ralph Sorter

1.     Repentance is prerequisite to baptism.  Acts 2:38; Acts 11:16-18

2.     Faith and belief in Jesus as the crucified, risen Son of God are prerequisite.  Mk. 16:16;
Acts 8:12; Acts 8:37; Acts 10:43; Acts 16:14-15; Acts 16:31,34; Acts 18:8; John 3:36

3.     Baptism joins my death and resurrection with Jesus.  Rom. 6:3; Col. 2:12; 1 Pet. 3:18,21

4.     God takes care of my sins at baptism.  Rom. 6:3,7; Col. 2:12,14; Acts 2:38; Acts 22:16

5.     The coming of the Holy Spirit surrounds baptism.  Acts 2:38; Acts 9:17-18; Mat 3:16
Sometimes He comes before baptism.  Acts 10:44-48
Sometimes He comes after baptism.  Acts 19:5-6
But the Apostles saw to it that both were to occur at relatively the same time, even if they already had the Holy Spirit, they still commanded baptism immediately.  Acts 10:48;
Acts 19:3-6

6.     Baptism was an obedience issue.  John 3:36; Matt. 28:19; Mk. 16:16; Acts 22:16
And thus proved to God a good conscience.  1 Pet. 3:21

7.     Baptism unites me with Christ.  Rom. 6:3-6; Col. 2:12; Gal. 3:27

Sub Issues Surrounding Baptism
