A COVENANT WITH ADAM
GENESIS 2-3 | A promise that a Son of Adam would bring victory.
In the Garden of Eden, God instituted a loving relationship with Adam and Eve, the part of creation He crafted in His likeness. He provided them a beautiful garden, good work, good food, and one another. What is more, the Almighty God humbled Himself, that mankind might personally know Him. He gave them clear parameters for living in His presence, but Adam and Eve rejected His wisdom and love, allowing sin to take hold.
God disciplined them and we see
Genesis 3:15 (ESV)
15 I will put enmity between you and the woman,     and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head,     and you shall bruise his heel.”
Despite their unfaithfulness, God remained faithful. In His immeasurable love, he promised all humanity victory over Satan and sin, through a coming Savior—a child from the line of Adam and Eve—who would crush the head of Satan but also suffer too.
THE COVENANT WITH MOSES
EXODUS 19-31A promise to not forsake His people—a once-for-all sacrifice would come.
God’s people became slaves in a foreign land—but with incredible displays of power and sovereignty, God freed them, calling Moses to lead His people out. Then He gave them the Law along with the tabernacle and its ritual sacrifices, which all testified to the impossibility of defeating sin apart from God. This covenant, though on the surface appearing to promote a works-based righteousness, demonstrated to the people the terrible cost of sin (death and the shedding of blood) and the inadequacy of the blood of animals to atone for sin once and for all—pointing them to the incredible grace of God in His longsuffering with them and fostering a longing for that promised Savior to come.
THE NEW COVENANT
HEBREWS 8-9A promise to redeem forever all who call on the name of Jesus, making them God's chosen people.
Finally, King Jesus, the Savior, the perfect sacrifice for the remission of sins forever, fulfilling each and every covenant—He defeated sin and death once and for all and will come again to bring His people into the new Promised Land where God will dwell with them a.. next week..
Gods standard of obedience
Gods holiness.. set apart.. so holy hand before the face of moses.. covenant..
In order to be a part of the thread of love

Chapter 28 ..blessing and curses of obey God the first ¼ is the blessing and the rest is the curses.. why is God so mad.. Then God tells moses about the covenant he will make with them and later will go into the law that jim spoke about a couple weeks but the people where mad about the curses..
Deuteronomy 29:25-27 (ESV)
25 Then people will say, ‘It is because they abandoned the covenant of the Lord, the God of their fathers, which he made with them when he brought them out of the land of Egypt, 26 and went and served other gods and worshiped them, gods whom they had not known and whom he had not allotted to them. 27 Therefore the anger of the Lord was kindled against this land, bringing upon it all the curses written in this book.
Thief on the cross realized this
Luke 23:40-43 (ESV)
40 But the other rebuked him, saying, “Do you not fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation? 41 And we indeed justly, for we are receiving the due reward of our deeds; but this man has done nothing wrong.” 42 And he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” 43 And he said to him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.”
Jeremiah 31:33 (ESV)
33 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
Matthew 5:17 (ESV)
17 “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.
In order to be a part of the thread of love
No more Religion, just Relationship
Matthew 27:50-51 (Esv)
50 And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice and yielded up his spirit.
51 And behold, the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. And the earth shook, and the rocks were split. For those whoe weren’t here a bouple weeks pastor jim explained…
The curtain symbolized the separation of God and man. Only the high priest and direct descendant of Aaron could walk through the curtain on the Day of Atonement to sprinkle the blood of the atoning sacrifice. Because of our sin, man is not worthy to stand in the presence of our Holy God.
Torn from top to bottom..clear that God did the work we cannot
Curtain was made by man..it was massive heavy but nothing man made can stop the power of God
Curtian represented the laws that had to be followed and it tore to demonstrate we are short of God’s glory
The tearing of the curtain represents Christ’s death is the only way in which we can stand in the presence of God..
Hebrews 10:19-22 (ESV)
19 Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, 20 by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh, 21 and since we have a great priest over the house of God, 22 let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.
Jesus now oversees us..no longer an imperfect priest or an imperfect pastor..no a perfect Shepherd who loves his sheep he died for them
A God who wants those he loves to know they are in relationship with him. Their shame, guilt and sins have been forgiven, torn..and thrown away.
John 10:10b (ESV)
I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.
People mistake this verse like their life will be perfect in a worldly sense. but truly
By Jesus going to the cross and putting himself in our place ..this is the means by which believer have access to presence of God
Jesus is able to do this because he fulfilled the promise! John 19:30 (ESV)
30 When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, “It is finished,” and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.
Jesus was human
Hebrews 4:15 (ESV)
15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.
Jesus is our mediator
Hebrews 8:6 (ESV) .. (sam)
6 But as it is, Christ has obtained a ministry that is as much more excellent than the old as the covenant he mediates is better, since it is enacted on better promises.
Luke 23:34
English Standard Version
34 And Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.”[a] And they cast lots to divide his garments.
JOhn piper said God took rebellion and he nailed it to the cross
1 Peter 3:18 (ESV)
18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit,
Jesus is perfect
Hebrews 9:14 (ESV)
14 how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, purify our conscience from dead works to serve the living God.
Jesus guarantees the salvation of God’s people
Hebrews 7:22 (ESV)
22 This makes Jesus the guarantor of a better covenant.
Jesus is the final answer..no more needs to be done!
Hebrews 9:15 (ESV)
15 Therefore he is the mediator of a new covenant, so that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance, since a death has occurred that redeems them from the transgressions committed under the first covenant
The first covenant couldn’t save to them, could it? It could only cover their sin. The first covenant couldn’t give access to God; it only gave a temporary kind of relationship. But Jesus can do what the first could not.
Jesus brings us into a relationship with God.. it brings us full forgiveness of sins..
In order to be a part of the thread of love
We need to have
Visible Faith
If the Bible was only man-made, God’s promises. would have failed long ago, but because it came from God, it continues from the beginning to the end.
So what is visible faith
Obedience
Romans 6:14-15 (ESV)
14 For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.
15 What then? Are we to sin because we are not under law but under grace? By no means!
Obedience to God should be your first priority
This is how we love him
John 14:15. (ESV)
15 “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.
Love
1 Corinthians 13:2-7 (The Message)
2 If I speak God’s Word with power, revealing all his mysteries and making everything plain as day, and if I have faith that says to a mountain, “Jump,” and it jumps, but I don’t love, I’m nothing.
3-7 If I give everything I own to the poor and even go to the stake to be burned as a martyr, but I don’t love, I’ve gotten nowhere. So, no matter what I say, what I believe, and what I do, I’m bankrupt without love.
Unity
John 17:20-21 (ESV)
20 “I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, 21 that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me. The thread of love continues through us.. We are visible proof of his promise each and every day.
After resurrection Jesus was walking down road
Where not our hearts burning within us when he opened the scripture to us?
We are forgiven We are called to obey We are to love We are called to be one with God and each other
.. offering.. prayer
Reflection Song ..then benediction
Next week the final thread in God’s love ..His victorious return
1 Peter 1:3-5 (ESV)
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, 5 who by God's power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
