Intro

I have some good news for all of you
That sounds great but ....
What if there was some bad news behind it
Bible was going to be my topic but....
So I decided I will talk about the over arching theme of the bible
The Gospel message of God’s salvation for his people

What is the Gospel

1 Corinthians 15:1–4 ESV
1 Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, 2 and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. 3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures,
So what are the elements of this Gospel message that Paul recieved?
Its recieved
Our sins
Christ died
Rose again
As the scripture said

Our Gospel presentation should have all of these components

So often when we share the gospel we can forget some of this
But we should not forget that our message is so important that we must deliver it clearly and accurate
If I told you I have a message so important its life and death but you must remember every part
You would take special care to memorize and communicate every part
You must deliver this message to the king if its even a little wrong you will die
We must treat the gospel with that same respect
this is a message that we cant afford to get wrong
for ourselves first and foremost
We must make sure we recieved and understand a full gospel
Do I understand the reality of sin in my life
Do I understand my sin cost Jesus his life
He willingly paid that price
So I owe him my life in obedience
Do I understand that I dont stay where I was when he saved me becuase Jesus rose for the dead and defeated sin
Do I understand that all of this is spelled out in the scripture?
Also we must make sure we get this message right for those who we tell it to
Why is this important because the gospel is recieved
1 Corinthians 15:1 ESV
1 Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand,
1 Corinthians 15:3 ESV
3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures,
The Gospel is not caught
We dont just live a good life and people trip over the gospel watching us
It is a message we declare
It is a message we proclaim and the holy spirit works in the heart of the hearer and Lord willing they receive it
It is recieved in the heart of the believer
Romans 10:14–15 ESV
14 How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? 15 And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!”
And it will change their life

Parts of the Gospel

Our Sin

1 Corinthians 15:3 ESV
3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures,
Christ Died for our sins
A natural questions why did Christ have to die for our sins???
What is sin????
Sin is the very thing that seperates us from God
it is us violating the will of God for our lives
It is our nature
Romans 3:23 ESV
23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
since the fall of mankind in genesis 3 man has sought to be equal with God
And this is a reversal of the creation order
we all posses sin
We are all seen as unrighteous in the sight of God
We are hopeless we cannot save ourselves
This should lead us to a what now questions
Ok how can a man be right with God?
A sacrifice must be made
Hebrews 10:12 ESV
12 But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God,
Romans 5:18–19 ESV
18 Therefore, as one trespass led to condemnation for all men, so one act of righteousness leads to justification and life for all men. 19 For as by the one man’s disobedience the many were made sinners, so by the one man’s obedience the many will be made righteous.

Christ Died

The death of Christ is of paramount importance to the gospel
that God would desire a relationship with this sinful man so much that he would step in in the form of his son
1 Corinthians 15:3 ESV
3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures,
As we just saw a sacrifice was required to make us clean before God
This sacrifice is Jesus’s perfect life
He takes the punishment so we dont have to
He substitutes himself in our place
Mark 15:9–15 ESV
9 And he answered them, saying, “Do you want me to release for you the King of the Jews?” 10 For he perceived that it was out of envy that the chief priests had delivered him up. 11 But the chief priests stirred up the crowd to have him release for them Barabbas instead. 12 And Pilate again said to them, “Then what shall I do with the man you call the King of the Jews?” 13 And they cried out again, “Crucify him.” 14 And Pilate said to them, “Why? What evil has he done?” But they shouted all the more, “Crucify him.” 15 So Pilate, wishing to satisfy the crowd, released for them Barabbas, and having scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified.
We dont know much about Barabbas but we do know this an innocent man will be crucified in his place
An innocent Jesus will be crucified for a guilty criminal
he will do this in order to present us a righteous
Romans 5:19 ESV
19 For as by the one man’s disobedience the many were made sinners, so by the one man’s obedience the many will be made righteous.

Rose again

1 Corinthians 15:4 ESV
4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures,
We are given a new life because Jesus conquered death
If he didnt raise on the third day we have no victory over sin and death
But because he has been raised we are given the ability to defeat our sins because he lives in us through the holy spirit
R kent hughes says
1 Corinthians—The Word of the Cross Chapter 27: The Power of the Gospel (1 Corinthians 15:1–11)

If Jesus Christ was bodily raised from the dead—a real historical event—that should change everything. We have both hope and joy. It changes the way we view ourselves, the world, our neighbors, creation, God, and history. It changes everything. But if Jesus Christ were not bodily raised from the grave, then Christianity has nothing to say. No hope. No joy. No exhortation. No inspiration. But Christianity is not just an optimistic pile of stories; real power emerges. If it is true, then we have real hope. And if it is not true, then we as Christians are most to be pitied of all people

his rising from the dead is the seal of truth on everything he said
John 2:19 ESV
19 Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.”
2 Peter 1:3 ESV
3 His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence,
His life (not being dead in a grave) is what give us the ability to live for him
It is also the impotence for our obedience to him
If he is raised then everything he said is true and required of us
His commands must be followed

Accordance with scripture

Just as it was written
Isaiah 53 ESV
1 Who has believed what he has heard from us? And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed? 2 For he grew up before him like a young plant, and like a root out of dry ground; he had no form or majesty that we should look at him, and no beauty that we should desire him. 3 He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief; and as one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not. 4 Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. 5 But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed. 6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned—every one—to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all. 7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth; like a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and like a sheep that before its shearers is silent, so he opened not his mouth. 8 By oppression and judgment he was taken away; and as for his generation, who considered that he was cut off out of the land of the living, stricken for the transgression of my people? 9 And they made his grave with the wicked and with a rich man in his death, although he had done no violence, and there was no deceit in his mouth. 10 Yet it was the will of the Lord to crush him; he has put him to grief; when his soul makes an offering for guilt, he shall see his offspring; he shall prolong his days; the will of the Lord shall prosper in his hand. 11 Out of the anguish of his soul he shall see and be satisfied; by his knowledge shall the righteous one, my servant, make many to be accounted righteous, and he shall bear their iniquities. 12 Therefore I will divide him a portion with the many, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong, because he poured out his soul to death and was numbered with the transgressors; yet he bore the sin of many, and makes intercession for the transgressors.
Just as it was written Christ will come and die for us and he will then take his place at the right hand of God where he will make intercession on our behalf

What do we do with this

Proclaim this Gospel
Live a life that reflects the gift we have been given
remind oursleves every day pf the gospel we recieved and stand in
That we sin and daily fall short of the glory of God
We are in a lost and hopeless situation
But because of the great love in which he loved us God sent his son to die for us
And Christ did
He was crucified in our place
and the one who would lay down his life for me is the one I should live for
And I can live for him because he has risen from the grave
He gives us the the ability to live for him by the power of his holy spirit
John 16:7 ESV
7 Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you.
And all this assures us of the truth of the scripture
All of this takes place just a she scriptures said it would
