1. THE LORD REIGNS!
The LORD simply Reigns.
He does not reign if we acknowledge Him, though we should.
He does not reign if we allow Him, though we should.
He does not reign if the world or nations recognize Him, or if hell bows down to Him.
The LORD simply Reigns. His throne has been secure from ancient times. He has always been King (v2).
He reigned in eternity past, He reigns in the present, He Reigns in the future, and although it might seem like the world or our life our the things surrounding us directly have gone off the rails, there is a moment in time when all things will be brought visibly under His reign. The actual will be made visible.
2. Nothing Moves God.
This means also that Circumstances, tumult, roaring waves, and all forms of uncertainty do not move or shake God off of His throne. He rules and reigns over it all. Therefore, we can trust Him.
He will not be on the throne one day and not the next.
He will not be asleep or be unaware of the events of heaven, the earth, or those in our life.
He will not be overthrown or cast off or removed from power.
He has never not been on the throne.
“Your throne has been secure from ancient times; You have always been King.” (v2).
He is immovable, unbreakable, unchangeable. He is forever and ever, and He is forever and ever upon His throne.
3. He has to Power to Enforce His Reign.
He is “Robed in Strength.” (v1)
There are many who are upon thrones, but lack the power to accomplish their will. God is not only enthroned, but He has the power to accomplish His will. His will is ALWAYS accomplished (Isaiah 46:9-10; Eph 1:11).
All authority in heaven and earth are His(Matt. 28:18).
“Our God is in heaven and does whatever He pleases.” (Psalms 115:3).
“All the inhabitants of the earth are counted as nothing, and He does what He wants with the army of heaven and the inhabitants of the earth. There is no one who can block His hand or say to Him, ‘What have You done?’” (Daniel 4:35).
4. God has the power to move on our behalf.
“The LORD is robed in majesty. The LORD is robed; He wears strength around His waist.” (v1)
Because God reigns, because He sits above the roaring waves, and because He is robed in strength…He has the power to move on our behalf. He has the power to heal, to deliver, and to save. More than that, He is willing to do so.
Above the tumult of the earth, God sits enthroned. The roaring waves - powerful, widespread, unrelenting, wild, and uncertain - God sits enthroned above. His is the moon to these waves.
In fact, the word “majesty” in Verse 1 can refer to a swelling of the seas and a rising up of or a column of smoke.
In other words, as God had the power to deliver Israel from Egypt and bring them through the Red Sea and lead them by a column of smoke (pillar of cloud by day)…He has the power to do the same for you and me.
5. God’s kingdom sets terms.
“Above the sound of the surging water, and the mighty waves…the LORD sits enthroned in majesty.” (v4)
There is that word “Majesty” again
It is not the kingdom of men or satan that determines how the game is played. Rather, God’s kingdom (as set from the authority found in His immovable throne) sets the terms and the rules of engagement.
We are not part of a retreating and subjected kingdom, but an advancing and overcoming kingdom.
As God is King, and as Jesus our brother rules and reigns with all power and authority and heaven and on the earth sitting sat the right hand of the Father, so do we sit with Him and reign.
We - through the authority of Jesus Christ - set the terms.
Never settle for anything less than what is yours in Christ, and much is yours.
6. Submission to His kingdom produces security and blessing.
“Indeed, the world is established; it cannot be moved.” (V1).
This means that people submitted and surrendered to this authority experience the blessing associated with its eternal rule.
The world is only established and unshaken as much as it is submitted to the unshakable throne.
Our personal lives are established and unshaken as much as we are submitted to God’s authority.
The more we surrender, the more we obey, the more we trust Him, the more blessing and security we experience in our life..
The River of blessing flows through obedience.
“Submit to God, resist the devil, and he will flee from you” (James 4:7).
7. His WORD is RELIABLE
Because the LORD reigns.
Because He cannot be moved.
Because He has the power to enforce His reign, to move on our behalf, and to set terms.
The LORD is TRUSTWORTHY. He MAKES promises and KEEPS them.
He fulfills His Word. He watches His Word to perform it (Jeremiah 1:12).
The means...If He said it, - through His power and His faithfulness - He will do it!
8. Holiness is Paramount.
“Holiness aptly adorns Your house.” (V5)
(Aptly adorns) TO BE PLEASING, DELIGHTFUL
Holiness is non-negotiable in the kingdom of the LORD. OT and NT consistently warn us that those who live lives unworthily will not inherit the kingdom of God.
God is love, but God is HOLY.
We cannot compartmentalize God.
We can't separate one attribute from another. When we do this, we get a false god and a false gospel.
What does that mean? We can’t prop up one aspect of who God is without promoting its interrelation to all of who God is.
God loves us and has proven that love in Jesus Christ, but God’s will for us in sending His Son isn’t just heaven (hell insurance) or simply relationship, but Right Relationship.
He has called us to BE HOLY AS HE IS HOLY (1 Peter 1:16; Leviticus 19:2). His will for us is sanctification (1 Thess. 4:3) and to be conformed to the image of His Son (Romans 8:29). Without holiness we will not see the LORD (Hebrews 12:14). Everyone who had this hope purifies himself just as He is pure (1 John 3:2). ((What hope? Being called God’s children through God’s great love)).
AND Jesus tells us that our work in holiness is the manifestation of our love for Him. If we love Him, we will keep His commandments (John 14:15).
A life filled with the Holy Spirit is evidenced by the HOLINESS of the HOLY Spirit.
“So then, brothers and sisters, we are not obligated to the flesh to live according to the flesh, 13 because if you live according to the flesh, you are going to die. But if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. 14 For all those led by God’s Spirit are God’s sons.[1]” Romans 8:12-14
***We cannot say we belong to God and love Him if our attitudes and our desires and our heart and our life are not transformed.
Saying some man-made, man-led prayer doesn’t save anybody. Only true faith evidenced in a changed heart and life.
“Circumcision is nothing and uncircumcision is nothing. Instead, keeping God's commandments is what counts” (1 Corinthians 7:19). ‘
But a true repentance (like that in Isaiah 6), where He sees the LORD, recognizes his sinfulness in light of God’s holiness, and turns from his wicked way toward the way of the cross, which results in forgiveness from God, and a NEW LIFE evidenced in A HOLY LIFE.
We say “God loves you and has an amazing plan for your life,”but what is that plan?
To make YOU HOLY. To make you LIKE HIM.
Love outside of holiness isn’t love at all.
It’s selfish lust.
9. We Can’t Do This Ourselves
We aren’t saved by the works we do. We’re saved because of what Jesus did for us.
And as He is the one who worked to saved us, He is the one through the Holy Spirit who works in us to become more like Him (Phil.2:13), but we have to yield to Him.
It begins with us recognizing we’re sinners.
Recognizing God is the only One who can save us through Jesus Christ alone.
Running to God and not away from Him.
Then asking Him to make us like Him by His power, grace, and love.
