Strengthened with Power

According to the riches of His Glory - How much is available?

Paul uses this phrase often in His writings - once in Eph 1:18 “having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints,”
(Col, Rom, Phil) similar phrases like “According to His Glorious might “Col 1:11
Colossians 1:11 ESV
being strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy;
HE is the possessor of ALL power and ALL things! If we need ANYTHING He is the one to go to - He is generous and loving
WHAT do you need? God Has it - ALL of it!
In this case - Paul is saying the thing that we need most is strength - How do we get it?

Power through His Spirit - How does it come to us?

God’s Spirit is the vehicle of God’s power to us - Many references in NT

In your inner being - Where do we receive it?

that Christ might Dwell in your hearts through Faith - Why does He give it?

Dwell - not visit or come by for a stay once in a while.
You can know Christ and not have Him dwell in your heart the way that Paul is praying about here.
God to Moses in Exodus 33:3 “Go up to a land flowing with milk and honey; but I will not go up among you, lest I consume you on the way, for you are a stiff-necked people.””
2 Peter 1:8-10 “For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. For whoever lacks these qualities is so nearsighted that he is blind, having forgotten that he was cleansed from his former sins. Therefore, brothers, be all the more diligent to confirm your calling and election, for if you practice these qualities you will never fall.” “For whoever lacks these qualities is so nearsighted that he is blind, having forgotten that he was cleansed from his former sins.”
Rev. 3:20 “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.”
Is there room for me to “Dwell” here - If you move new furniture you what do you first have to do? Remove the old! We are about to embark on discussion of removing the Old Self and putting on the New Self in the coming chapter but what are some of the things you might have to remove to allow Christ to dwell in you heart?

You might be Rooted and Grounded in Love - What is the result?

Where does your soul find its nutrients?
What wakes you up in the morning? What gets you going? What fuels you with hope and energy? Are you paying attn. to what motivates you?
Psalm 37:4 “Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.”
How Grounded are you in Love - how easy is it to shake or bump you into an un-loving place - do you dwell in an unloving place?
PRAY that the Spirit would so strengthen you!
How do we get Rooted an Grounded in the Love of Christ?

Strengthened with Comprehension

Power to Grasp the greatness of God’s Love

Begin to wrap your head around God’s GREAT Love for you!
Dig in, Dive in Swim in it, marinate in it!

To know his love that surpasses knowledge

Inviting you to know the unknowable
Study it
Experience it - confession/repentance/Praise
Practice it - what would be the most loving thing to do? What does God’s love say to me RIGHT NOW?
Repeat
PRAY that the Spirit would expand your experience with His Love!
Spiritual Truths require the Spirit to understand!

Strengthened by the Fullness of God’s Glory!

What is this filling?
Filled with God’s Love?
Filled with His character?
Filled with God’s Inheritance, Power and Glory?
Everything necessary for perfection?
Remember the context - the church is the Temple of God -
Ephesians 2:19–21 ESV
So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, in whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord.
Paul is praying that God might fill us, and the church as a whole the whole measure of His Presence! (Baugh. 280)
God’s presence filled the Tabernacle Ex. 40:34-35
Exodus 40:34–35 ESV
Then the cloud covered the tent of meeting, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle. And Moses was not able to enter the tent of meeting because the cloud settled on it, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle.
Solomon’s Temple (1 Kings 8:10-11
1 Kings 8:10–11 ESV
And when the priests came out of the Holy Place, a cloud filled the house of the Lord, so that the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud, for the glory of the Lord filled the house of the Lord.
After he had seen the Glory of God depart from the temple, before it was defiled by idolatry, Ezekiel saw the vision of this new temple -
Ezekiel 43:1–5 ESV
Then he led me to the gate, the gate facing east. And behold, the glory of the God of Israel was coming from the east. And the sound of his coming was like the sound of many waters, and the earth shone with his glory. And the vision I saw was just like the vision that I had seen when he came to destroy the city, and just like the vision that I had seen by the Chebar canal. And I fell on my face. As the glory of the Lord entered the temple by the gate facing east, the Spirit lifted me up and brought me into the inner court; and behold, the glory of the Lord filled the temple.
This fits with the Doxology that follows immediately!
