John 14:9 NKJV
9 Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?
As Christians, our aim is to be able to say this same thing, “When you’ve seen me, you’ve seen Jesus!”
“When you’ve seen me, you’ve seen the Word in real life.” (ref. John 1:14).
The Bible calls us letters read by people. (2 Cor. 3:2)
What is the story that your life is telling, is it the Good News?
Luke 6:46–49 NKJV
46 “But why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do the things which I say? 47 Whoever comes to Me, and hears My sayings and does them, I will show you whom he is like: 48 He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently against that house, and could not shake it, for it was founded on the rock. 49 But he who heard and did nothing is like a man who built a house on the earth without a foundation, against which the stream beat vehemently; and immediately it fell. And the ruin of that house was great.”
What a fantastic question!
Our Christian walk is shaky and unstable because we hear, but we don’t do.
Joke about the hired Pastor

Some reasons that our life in Christ is not strong and stable:

James 4:17 NKJV
17 Therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin.
When we know what the Lord & the Bible says about something, but choose to not do it, we are choosing sin.
Our life is not meant to run on the fuel of sin.
James 2:26 NKJV
26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.
James 2:18 NKJV
18 But someone will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works.
Hearing the Word of God generates faith in our heart (Romans 10:17), but when we don’t act upon it, our faith dies.
Hebrews 10:38 NKJV
38 Now the just shall live by faith; But if anyone draws back, My soul has no pleasure in him.”
We can’t live by dead faith!

Parable of the 2 sons:

Matthew 21:28–31 NKJV
28 “But what do you think? A man had two sons, and he came to the first and said, ‘Son, go, work today in my vineyard.’ 29 He answered and said, ‘I will not,’ but afterward he regretted it and went. 30 Then he came to the second and said likewise. And he answered and said, ‘I go, sir,’ but he did not go. 31 Which of the two did the will of his father?” They said to Him, “The first.” Jesus said to them, “Assuredly, I say to you that tax collectors and harlots enter the kingdom of God before you.
We don’t always have to feel like doing the Word of God.
Do it anyway.

How to Begin & Solidify a Habit of Being a Doer:

When you read your Bible and see an instruction, don’t wait - Do It!
Make who you are a reflection of what you read & hear from the Bible!
Psalm 113:1 NKJV
1 Praise the Lord! Praise, O servants of the Lord, Praise the name of the Lord!
Psalm 98:4 NKJV
4 Shout joyfully to the Lord, all the earth; Break forth in song, rejoice, and sing praises.
Psalm 47:1 NKJV
1 Oh, clap your hands, all you peoples! Shout to God with the voice of triumph!
Malachi 3:10 NKJV
10 Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, That there may be food in My house, And try Me now in this,” Says the Lord of hosts, “If I will not open for you the windows of heaven And pour out for you such blessing That there will not be room enough to receive it.
Matthew 10:7–8 NKJV
7 And as you go, preach, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ 8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.
Mark 11:25–26 NKJV
25 “And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses. 26 But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your trespasses.”
Obedience takes exactly ZERO skill!
Decide what you are going to do before you get to the moment you need to make your choice.
Joshua 24:15 NKJV
15 And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

Just One Thing:

Get into The Word & decide to do everything you see. Let’s be the Word that comes alive for those around us.

Discussion Questions:

Would you want the ability to hear the thoughts of people near you if you couldn’t turn the ability off? Why or why not?
What do you think about the suggestion of creating a habit of doing what you see in the Bible immediately? Do you think this could help you, even if it feels silly? Share a little.
Please read Matthew 21:28-31 & the parable of “The 2 Sons” - what stands out to you about this parable & where/how can you see yourself in it?
Are there a couple of things (that you are willing to share) where you know what you should do, but you consistently choose not to? If you think about it, how does your heart feel about your choice?
