“But Wait Theres More”- “Wait For More”
Disciples failed- Matthew 17:17 (NKJV) 17 Then Jesus answered and said, “O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him here to Me.”
Why did we Fail
Matthew 17:20–21 (NKJV) 20 So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you. 21 However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.”Fast- go without food
The Word Needed the Spirit- Jesus Needed The Holy Spirit
Giveing Him Your Heart
Illustration- Someone told me I needed to “Give My Heart To Jesus”?
We use the term to describe if someone is saved or unsaved.
The Heart Is Decietful- Jeremiah 17:9–10 (NKJV) 9 “The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; Who can know it? 10 I, the Lord, search the heart, I test the mind, Even to give every man according to his ways, According to the fruit of his doings.
Deceitful- Decieves, lies, untruthful, Polluted, wrong motives, can’t be trusted
Desperately Wicked- Incurably sick. Corupted
Paul Said Of Himself- Romans 7:24 (NIV) 24 What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death?
1 Corinthians 4:4–5 (NIV) 4 My conscience is clear, but that does not make me innocent. It is the Lord who judges me.
Your Conscience Can Lie To You
The Heart Needs Guarding- Proverbs 4:23 (NIV) 23 Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.
Davids Heart- Acts 13.22” A man after the heart of God.”
Davids Fall, Exposure & Response 2 Samuel 12:16 (NIV) 16 David pleaded with God for the child. He fasted and spent the nights lying in sackcloth on the ground.
Psalm 51:10–13 (NKJV) (Written After Nathan confronted David)
10 Create in me a clean heart, O God,
And renew a steadfast spirit within me.
11 Do not cast me away from Your presence,
And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me.
12 Restore to me the joy of Your salvation,
And uphold me by Your generous Spirit.
13 Then I will teach transgressors Your ways,
And sinners shall be converted to You.
Heart-Leb, mind, soul, spirit, self (The center of you), innerself
Clean- pure
“Thats Old Testament”
Jesus Fasted After He Recieved the Holy Spirit
Matthew 4:1–2 (NIV) 4 Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. 2 After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry.
Why did Jesus fast first? Why didnt He take on the devil first?
Led by the Spirit To be tempted- Fasted first.
Fasting Prepared Jesus For The Devils Temptation
Fasting Reveals The Darkness In Our heart
Fasting-Draws Us Closer To God- Closer Brings More Light- Increases Faith - Increases Authority
Charles Finney- American Presbyterian minister and revivalist who lived from 1792-1875)“Power From On High”
To the honor of God alone I will say a little of my own experience in this matter. I was powerfully converted on the morning of the 10th of October. In the evening of the same day, and on the morning of the following day, I received overwhelming baptisms of the Holy Ghost, that went through me, as it seemed to me, body and soul. I immediately found myself endued with such power from on high that a few words dropped here and there to individuals were the means of their immediate conversion. My words seemed to fasten like barbed arrows in the souls of men. They cut like a sword. They broke the heart like a hammer. Multitudes can attest to this. Oftentimes a word dropped, without my remembering it, would fasten conviction, and often result in almost immediate conversion. Sometimes I would find myself, in a great measure, empty of this power. I would go out and visit, and find that I made no saving impression. I would exhort and pray, with the same result. I would then set apart a day for private fasting and prayer, fearing that this power had departed from me, and would inquire anxiously after the reason of this apparent emptiness. After humbling myself, and crying out for help, the power would return upon me with all its freshness. This has been the experience of my life.
Power From On High
“But whenever I fasted, and let the Spirit take His own course with me, and gave myself up to let Him lead and instruct me, I universally found it in the highest degree useful to me. I found I could not live without enjoying the presence of God”
