As I was seeking God on what to preach kept reminding me--working together. If we are going to grow, no matter the season of our life, no matter the struggles that we face everyone must stick together. Tell Ice throwing story.
There are times in our life when we will want to move on and one has to decide am I being called by God? God gave you the people in this church to encourage and support you. He is the great shephard that leads the body of Christ.
I want to turn to 1 Corinthians chapter 12 where Paul writes about the Spiritual gifts. The first thing we need to understand is that we all have a place in the body of Christ. We are all called to part of the body of Christ. Each one of us has a gift.
You are who you are and you aren’t a mistake
Every Person has reason
Many of us believe the lie Satan tells us that we aren’t good enough. That we have nothing to give. But I want to remind you of
1 Corinthians 12:7 ESV
7 To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.
The term manifestation means: A clear appearance of.
If you received Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior you have, in your life, the clear appearance of the Holy Spirit. Now Satan was distort that clear appearance with lies, doubt, fear, anxiety, but God gave you His Spirit so that you would be made in His image.
Why? Not for self absorbtion, nor for self benefit, but for the common good of the body of Christ. Realize everything you are called to do is for the greater good of the church. If you have been blessed with finance than God desires you to bless the church. If you can teach, sing, carpentry, lead, love…whatever gifts you have
Do it unto the Lord,
It’s to be used to expand God’s kingdom.
1 Corinthians 12:14 ESV
14 For the body does not consist of one member but of many.
Paul uses the physical body to represent the Spiritual body of believers. He goes onto explain that all it’s part are necessary for the body to function.
In times of change or crisis the body is vitally important. If I lose the use of an arm for a time being than the body has to make up for that lac of arm. It leans on the other parts to do more than their fair share. There are times in our life where our body needs to make these necessary adjustments, but it is never meant to be sustained for long periods of time.
2. Every Member is important
Satan will try to tell you aren’t an important member of the body.
1 Corinthians 12:22–23 ESV
22 On the contrary, the parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable, 23 and on those parts of the body that we think less honorable we bestow the greater honor, and our unpresentable parts are treated with greater modesty,
We need to realize something.
Just because what you do isn’t always seen doesn’t make it any less important. Again think of the human body the covered parts where modesty is most important are the parts that God gave us to create life and to nurture life. Without them the any body would cease to function. Sometimes what we consider the most mundane parts of the body are the most necessary to the bodies growth.
Think of this: In your life—do people see your prayer life flourish—no, but stop praying in secret and eventually people will see the fruit of it in public. People see your worship, but worship can be faked. Prayer cannot.
I would dare to say that which we do in private is more important than that which we do in public.
Your gifts are necessary in God’s kingdom.
There is no use for envy or Jealousy and I would state that there is no use for self devaluation. By putting down the gifts God has given you and call he put in your life you put down it’s creator. If you worked hard to make something and I tell you it’s worthless I may be talking about the item you gave me, but you are going to internalize that into I’m worthless. I can’t do anything. I am stupid. Why because we are an extension of our work, Just as God made us we are an extension of Him.
3. You are in it together
Look around. The people next to you, in front of you, behind you. Those are the people who should have your back no matter what life brings you. Thee body of Christ is the family you choose. And you need to learn to lean on and rely on each other.
1 Corinthians 12:26 ESV
26 If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honored, all rejoice together.
If I run in a race no one comes and congratulates my feet. The whole body is praised. If I pass out in the race I don’t blame my feet either. The entire body gets looked at.
As the body of Christ you will need to encourage and uplift each other. You will need to support and help each other. You will need to be able to rely on eachother. You are not in this life alone.
I love how ministry took place yesterday. The women went to an event, but we had men cooking and even men stepped up to watch the children so that the church ladies could enjoy the event. The kicker: The man who watched the kids didn’t even have kids himself. No one asked him to. He saw a hole and he filled it. Another man was asked to cook. He didn’t hear the speaker or get to see the event, but he saw the hole and he filled. This is the unity of the body of Christ.
