Being in the Zone of Worship
Psalm 84; John 4:23-24
David was in the Zone of Worship.
Being in the zone, is the mental state in which a person performing some activity is fully immersed in a feeling of energized focus, full involvement, and enjoyment in the process of the activity. It is characterized by the complete absorption in what one does, and a resulting transformation in one's sense of time.
In the Zone=
1. Fully engaged and focused,
2. Feel Energized Involvement
3. Experience enjoyment.
4. Results in transformation (progress, greater achievement).
So, how do we get into the Zone of worship?
First, Get Focused (Engaged).
And David danced before the Lord with all his might, wearing a priestly garment. So David and all the people of Israel brought up the Ark of the Lord with shouts of joy and the blowing of rams’ horns.
2 Samuel 6:14-22
David was focused by the Life and Death consequences of being in the Presence of God.
According to the biblical account in 2 Samuel and 1 Chronicles, David, who had just become king of Israel, decided to bring the Ark to Jerusalem as a way of solidifying his claim to the throne and unifying the people of Israel under his rule. The Ark of the Covenant was a sacred object that represented the presence of God and contained the tablets of the Ten Commandments.
However, the first attempt to transport the Ark ended in disaster when one of David's men, Uzzah, reached out to steady the Ark as it was being transported on an ox cart, and was struck dead by God for touching the Ark (2 Samuel 6:1-11).
This event brought home to David the seriousness of the task before him and the need to follow God's commands carefully. After a period of reflection, David organized a second attempt to transport the Ark, this time following the proper protocols of worship. The worship event took place with a large and solemn procession of priests, Levites, and musicians (1 Chronicles 15:1-16:43).
The successful arrival of the Ark in Jerusalem was a significant event in Israel's history, symbolizing the presence of God in their midst and marking the establishment of Jerusalem as the religious and political capital of the kingdom.
In the Zone: David himself was deeply moved by the occasion, dancing and singing with joy before the Lord and offering sacrifices and thanksgiving (2 Samuel 6:12-23).
Any circumstance that involves the possibility of life or death can focus the mind and bring about a greater appreciation for life and the things that truly matter.
Psalm 84 is a beautiful psalm that expresses the longing of the writer to be in the presence of God.
The psalmist says, “How lovely is your dwelling place, O Lord of hosts! My soul longs, yes, faints for the courts of the Lord; my heart and flesh sing for joy to the living God.”
In this psalm, Davidrecognizes the importance of being in the presence of God. He understands that worship is not just an act of singing or praying, but it is about being in the presence of the Almighty God. The writer acknowledges that God’s presence is like a home to him, and being away from it makes him feel like he is in a barren and dry land.
Jesus teaches us about being zoned in with a focus on worship.
In Matthew 22:37-38, He says, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment.”
This means that our worship must come from the depths of our hearts, and not just our lips. We must let go of all distractions and focus on God alone.
Jesus is telling us that worship is not just about going through the motions or reciting prayers, but it is about loving God with all our hearts, souls, and minds.
Second, Get Into the Flow (Energized)—we must worship in spirit.
In John 4:23-24, Jesus says, “But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.”
Jesus is telling us that true worship is not about the physical location or the time of day, but it is about worshiping God in spirit and truth.
True worship is not about voices singing in tune, but it is about our hearts tuned into the Spirit of God.
True worship is not about the planned Order of Service, selected liturgy, and the bells and whistles of tech-sophisticated praise, but it is about a holy engagement between humans and the divine.
When we worship in spirit, we allow the Holy Spirit to move in us, fill us, and guide us.
On the Isle of Patmos, the Apostle John said, “I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s Day.”
“I’m gonna sing, pray, dance when the Spirit says…and the obey the Spirit of the Lord.”
“I’ll say, ‘Yes, Lord, Yes!’ to your will and to your way…I will trust You and Obey.
When the Spirit speaks to me, with my whole heart, I’ll agree, and my answer will be ‘Yes, Lord, Yes!’”
The Flow of worship must be Continuous.
We cannot just worship on Sundays and forget about God for the rest of the week. We must follow through and make worship a daily habit, seeking to connect with God in every moment of our lives.
Follow Though—Continuous, Ceaseless, Constant
Third, get real—we must worship in truth.
“One of the strongest signs of being in the zone is a sense of freedom and of authenticity.”

This means that our worship must be based on who God truly is, and not on our own ideas or preferences.
We must come to worship with a deep understanding of God's character, His love for us, and His desire for our worship.
Fake Church.
False worship.
Pretense—Putting on a Show.
Knowing the Truth, Jesus said, is Liberating.
Nothing is more Real than Knowing God’s Presence.
Get Real = Thirsty For God’s Truth to Satisfy Us. Yeshua is the Real Thirst Quencher
Get Real = Allowing God’s Truth to Transform Us
Get Real = The Truth About Worship and Sacrifice. Worship means the death of Self.
Get real = thirsty for fulfillment (God, Ourselves, and Others)
Romans 12:1-2
The Fulfillment of Worship is Sacrifice—Transformation.
Worship fulfills God’s desire—Our Sincerity, Humility, and Faithful Service.
Worship brings fulfillment to our inner thirst, as the woman at the well discovered.
Indeed, Yeshua is the fulfillment of our greatest yearnings for a divine relationship.
The Encounter of Worship should transform our lives, our homes, and our community.
Yeshua is the “center of our joy.”
We must remember all that God has done for us, and give thanks to Him for His blessings. When we worship with a heart of gratitude, we open ourselves to even greater blessings from God.
In conclusion, getting into the zone of worship requires intentionality, spirit, truth, persistence, and gratitude.
Let us strive to be true worshipers who seek God with all our hearts, and worship Him in spirit and truth.
May our worship be a pleasing sacrifice to our Lord and Savior. Amen.
