SEA OF GALILEE
SEA OF GALILEE
Suggested Questions
Read Matthew 14:22-33. What was Jesus doing while the disciples were in the storm? Why do you think Jesus told the disciples to get in the boat ahead of Him, knowing they would face a storm?
2. When the disciples saw Jesus walking on the water, they were terrified and thought He was a ghost. What did Jesus say to calm their fears? What is the literal rendering of His response - and what does that say about His power over the storm?
3. Peter took a bold step of faith by walking on the water toward Jesus, but he started to sink when he saw the wind. Jesus caught him and asked why he doubted (see verse 31). Why do you think we likewise tend to doubt Jesus’ ability to calm our storms?
4. What impact did Jesus’ miracle have on those who were in boat that night (see verse 33)? Why is that significant?
5. Jesus ordered the disciples to get into the boat and go to the other side of the Sea of Galilee. Has Jesus ever asked you do something that led you directly into a storm? If so, what happened and how did it affect your faith?
6. What happened when Jesus got into the boat? Have you ever felt the presence of Christ in the middle of your storm? How did you know it was Him?
7. Put yourself in the disciples’ place. If you were on a boat, in a storm, and saw a figure walking on water, what would you think? How has Jesus approached you in unexpected ways, or in unexpected places, or through unexpected people?
8. Jesus revealed Himself as the great I AM. The use of this name would have reassured the disciples of His power and reminded them of God’s great deeds in the past. What are some of the ways that Jesus has revealed Himself as the great I AM in your life?
