What colour are sheep?
Are they white?

Scripture

Mark 1:21–39 NIV
They went to Capernaum, and when the Sabbath came, Jesus went into the synagogue and began to teach. The people were amazed at his teaching, because he taught them as one who had authority, not as the teachers of the law. Just then a man in their synagogue who was possessed by an impure spirit cried out, “What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!” “Be quiet!” said Jesus sternly. “Come out of him!” The impure spirit shook the man violently and came out of him with a shriek. The people were all so amazed that they asked each other, “What is this? A new teaching—and with authority! He even gives orders to impure spirits and they obey him.” News about him spread quickly over the whole region of Galilee. As soon as they left the synagogue, they went with James and John to the home of Simon and Andrew. Simon’s mother-in-law was in bed with a fever, and they immediately told Jesus about her. So he went to her, took her hand and helped her up. The fever left her and she began to wait on them. That evening after sunset the people brought to Jesus all the sick and demon-possessed. The whole town gathered at the door, and Jesus healed many who had various diseases. He also drove out many demons, but he would not let the demons speak because they knew who he was. Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed. Simon and his companions went to look for him, and when they found him, they exclaimed: “Everyone is looking for you!” Jesus replied, “Let us go somewhere else—to the nearby villages—so I can preach there also. That is why I have come.” So he traveled throughout Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and driving out demons.
21 - Jesus just called his first disciples and they set out to do something big. They arrived at a synagogue and began to teach
22 - People couldn’t believe the confidence and authority Jesus spoke with!
When someone truly represents the will of the father and is really emboldened by the Holy Spirt. People will know.
People know when we are being fake.
When we speak about the Gospel and Biblical truth are we confident? Do we claim the authority Christ gives us. This same authority he claimed in this passage?
23 &24 - When the truth shows up it can shine a bright light on the impure.
Picture a black light on light or neon fabrics. You might not like what you see. If I had a black light here with me tonight would be brave enough to smile over top of it?
I wouldn’t. My teeth might look white from a distance but if you smile above a black light… you will notice EVERY imperfection.
So, back to the colour of sheep… We said they are typically white.
Tomorrow morning take a drive down the road. There are a few places...
25 &26- Jesus didn’t just speak with authority. He commanded it. He spoke only words and commanded...
27&28 - People were confused and word got out. When God really moves and shows up the world will notice.
29-31 - Here we see the evidence that Peter was in fact married. He had a mother in law.
He healer her
32-34 - He healed and he healed and he healed.
Sick, demon possessed, diseases. Jesus did many powerful things.
35 - Jesus snuck out early in the morning to get some alone time so he could pray.
36 - EVERYONE IS LOOKING FOR YOU!!!!
38-39 - I am needed in other places than here.
What does this have to do with eating?
Buffet - so many options
fill up your plate and fill up your plate.
I call it table managment theory.
You start at the beginning and everythign looks so good. Then you look at the 2nd or 3rd table and what is there...
Meatballs or baked beans...
we all have full plates… sometimes we have to say no..
Authority gives us some powerful yes’ but also the ability to say no so that we can be ready to other things.
