Communion

Today is communion Sunday and all who are here that have received Jesus as Lord and Savior can come to the Table.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, we bow before you in humility and ask You to examine our hearts today. Show us anything that is not pleasing to You, anything Lord that would cause us to take communion in a unworthy fashion reveal it to us so we can lay it at the foot of the cross.
PAUSE
Lord as we take the bread representing your life that was broken for us, we remember and celebrate Your faithfulness. We can not begin to fathom the agonizing suffering of the cross. Yet You took that pain for us all here and not only for us Lord, but for the entire world. You died for us and for that we Thank You, Jesus. Thank You for Your extravagant love and grace. Thank You that Your death gave us life—abundant life now, and eternal life forever.
In Jesus Name, We Love You! Amen!!
During the Last Supper which was a passover celebration:
Mark 14:22 NKJV
And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them and said, “Take, eat; this is My body.”
TAKE of The Bread
Mark 14:23 NKJV
Then He took the cup, and when He had given thanks He gave it to them, and they all drank from it.
Take of The Cup
Mark 14:24–26 NKJV
And He said to them, “This is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many. Assuredly, I say to you, I will no longer drink of the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God.” And when they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.
The Mount of Olives is right next to Gethsemane, it was here that Jesus prayed and was betrayed by Judas, The following day Jesus was crucified church.

Prayer

Lord, thank you for your broken body and your poured out blood, thank you for the Cross and its implications for all of mankind. Today, right here and right now, we remember your sacrifice and because of your sacrifice of surrender to your Father’s will, we surrender our lives to you and ask you the you do a work in hearts today. And Lord, as we open your Word, please speak louder than life and enable us through the power of the Holy Spirit to heed your beck and call. We know Lord that your Word is living, we ask now that it would be living in us. May the meditations of our hearts and minds be acceptable our Rock and Redeemer. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Fill us with your Spirit and teach us know to apply your Word.
In Jesus Name, We Love You!! Amen!!!
We have come as far as Matthew 7:21, so let us open our Bibles there.
Today, is a bitter, but yet sweet day.
By God’s grace, we will close out the Sermon on the Mount today.
Therefore, it is somewhat bitter because we are closing out this section of Scripture, but sweet, because there is much much more to cover in the Book of Matthew.

Read Matthew 7:21-29

Matthew 7:21–23 NKJV
“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’
Matthew 7:24–29 NKJV
“Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. “But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.” And so it was, when Jesus had ended these sayings, that the people were astonished at His teaching, for He taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.

Review

In looking back over the last 30 sermons, we can now say that Jesus has taught us how to enter His Kingdom and be his disciple.
Jesus has laid down multiple principles and given us everything that pertains to life and godliness like:
How to come to Him>> Blessed are the poor in spirit, blessed are those who mourn
Like how to pray, fast, and give, and also how not to pray, fast, and give.
Like how to love our enemies and go the extra mile.
He taught us where to store our treasures and where not to store them.
Jesus taught us to not worry and that worry will not add to our lives, but take away from our lives.
Jesus taught us that we are to deal with the planks in our own eyes, before pulling the specks out of other peoples eyes and to not cast our pearls to the hogs and dogs church.
Then Jesus taught us over the last few weeks that there is two gates, two roads, tow destinations and then on:
T, one two type of teaching, one true and one false. Beware of wolves church who come to us in sheep’s clothing!!
Two trees, one that produce good fruit and the other that produces bad fruit.
And today, we will close out this sermon with a false confession and two foundations and two homes.
Matthew 7:21 NKJV
“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.
You know last week we talked about wolves who come to us in sheep’s clothing and Jesus twice shared with his listeners that we will know them by their fruits.
This means we are to be fruit inspectors, this means that we must be discerning to know the real from the counterfeit.
Did you know that when counterfeit money come sweeping into an area that the tellers at banks study real money to determine what is false?
WE are to study the Word, so we can discern the false:
Note, that not everyone who says to Me (Jesus), Lord, Lord will enter the kingdom of heaven.
But only those who do the will of my Father.
Jesus just taught us How to enter the Kingdom of heaven throughout the Sermon on the Mount and here as he closes, he is reminding his listeners to do the Father’s will.
What is the Father’s will church?
That is simple, it is what Jesus has taught us over the last several weeks.
But you know what?
Most of us, if not all of us are saying there is absolutely no way I can apply all these principles to my life, because I fall short of God’s glory every single day.
And that’s the point! You cannot!!!
See, the Sermon on the Mount was given to us to lead us the the Mount called Calvary.
It is only by God grace that we are saved, not by our works.
Even thought the gate is narrow and the way is hard, we must never, ever forget that Jesus died as a ransom for many so yes it his hard, and yes it takes his grace to keep us in the race.
No matter how good we try to be, our righteousness is but filthy rags.
See church, Jesus did not die for a few, but for the world. When we surrender to his Lordship, he imputes his righteousness to us and he makes us whiter than snow.
So do not fear, because we all fall short and there is nothing, absolutely nothing that we can do to earn heaven or make God love us anymore. Yes the gate is narrow
But sadly church, we must look at the what the text says:
Some will not get in.
Those that will get in are those who do the Father’s will and the False prophets were doing their will.
Matthew 7:21 KJV 1900
Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
You see that doeth there is the KJV?
This is a verb written in the present, active tense which means that we should presently carry out or perform an action or course of action.
Jesus is teaching us that we are to do God’s word, not just hear and memorize God’s word church.
John 14:15–16 NKJV
“If you love Me, keep My commandments. And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever—
John 14:23 NKJV
Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.
John 14:25–26 NKJV
“These things I have spoken to you while being present with you. But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.
The Holy Spirit will teach us and help us remember those things we are to do as Jesus is teaching us here church.
Matthew 7:22–23 NKJV
Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’
Note that Jesus says many will say to ME!!
This means that there are many who profess, but do not possess the life of Jesus.
If we have really been born again and the Holy Spirit now resides in us, then there must be change.
What was your cost? When you surrendered your life to Jesus? What did it cost you, because it cost Jesus his life?
True surrender costs church!
What happened when you surrendered your life to Christ, what is happening now?
In that day points to Judgement day church and notice that Jesus will be the judge. They say to him in that day church!
I find it interesting that Jesus says these people will claim to do miraculous things, yet still not do the will of the Father, they practice “lawlessness”.
It’s not a matter of saying the right words that saves a person.
It’s not even a matter of doing miracles that shows you are saved.
It’s letting God change your life. Words are important, but if there are only words and no change, then something is wrong.
When God changes your life, you find yourself doing the things that please God.
This doesn’t mean we are saved by works and not by faith. This means that if a person’s faith is genuine, then their life and their works will change.
The proof is in the life church, the proof is in the pudding!!!
Prophesying, casting out demons, and doing wonders in the name of Jesus, does not mean a person is saved.
Lord, Lord, suggests much more than human respect, as their following comments make clear. That they claimed to have prophesied, cast out demons, and performed miracles in Jesus’ name indicates they acknowledged Him as Lord in a supernatural way.
Lord was a common Jewish substitute title for Jehovah, or Yahweh, which name they considered too holy to utter.
Therefore to address Jesus as Lord was to address Him as the one true God!!!
But these false professors where self-deceived church, into thinking their works saved them for we are not saved by works, but by grace church!!!
Even the devil can do miracles church.
When Moses was dealing with Pharaoh, his magicians were able to counterfeit what Moses was doing up to a certain point.
2 Timothy 3:8 NKJV
Now as Jannes and Jambres resisted Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, disapproved concerning the faith;
Simon the Sorcerer desired the Holy Spirit for his benefit
Judas cast out demons when Jesus sent the boys out to do the work of the ministry and Judas betrayed Jesus!!!
Baalam caused the Israelites to sin, even though the Lord called him.
2 Peter 2:15–16 NKJV
They have forsaken the right way and gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Beor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness; but he was rebuked for his iniquity: a dumb donkey speaking with a man’s voice restrained the madness of the prophet.
These were the folks who were doing things in the name of the Lord, but yet did not know the Lord!!!
Its not what you do church, it who you know!
Lawlessness is sin:
1 John 3:4 NKJV
Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness.
Practice lawlessness is a present participle in the Greek, indicating continuous, regular action, and identifies the unforgiven sin and unrighteous life patterns of those claimers of salvation. You continually and habitually practice lawlessness is the idea. Profession of Christ and practice of lawlessness are totally incompatible. A good tree cannot bear that sort of fruit.
So those that do not enter, are false professors using the name of Jesus, but do not know HIM and do what he asks!!
Engraved in a cathedral in Germany are these words: Thus speaketh Christ our Lord to us.
You Call Me Master
You call Me Master and obey Me not.
You call Me Light and see Me not.
You call Me the Way and walk Me not.
You call Me Life and choose Me not.
You call Me Wise and follow Me not.
You call Me Fair and love Me not.
You call Me Rich and ask Me not.
You call Me Eternal and seek Me not.
You call Me Noble and serve Me not.
You call Me Gracious and trust Me not.
You call Me Might and honor Me not.
You call Me Just and fear Me not.
If I condemn you, blame Me not.
The Bible Exposition Commentary Chapter Six: The King’s Principles: True Judgment (Matthew 7)

Words are not a substitute for obedience, and neither are religious works

Matthew 7:24–25 KJV 1900
Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.
It is important to read this text slowly.
Jesus says this person hears and does what he hears.
Hears- akouo- to learn about, to heed, to understand, to hear attentively.
Rain, floods, and winds represent the storms of life church and these come in all shapes and sizes...
And the person who applies the principles of the sermon on the mount will not be shaken church, will not be shaken....
There house will not fall for they hear God’s word, receive Gods Word and do God’s word.
And you know what the Word says about these people? THEY BEAR FRUIT!!!
This builder built his foundation on the rock.
This builder heard the Word and did the Word.
This builder continuously hears the Word and does the word.
And then there is another builder and a different foundation:
Matthew 7:26–27 NKJV
“But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.”
This builder built his foundation on sand, on shifty sand. You cannot build on sand because sand moves church, sand moves, like emotion.
When the storm hit this house, it fell.
Rain, floods, and winds are coming into all of our lives church and what we build on will be tested...
The two men in this story had much in common.
Both had desires to build a house.
Both built houses that looked good and sturdy.
But when the judgment came (the storm), one of the houses collapsed.
What was the difference? Not the mere external looks, to be sure. The difference was in the foundation: The successful builder “dug deep” (Luke 6:48) and set his house on a solid foundation.
And that foundation is Christ, that foundation is obedience to God’s Word church.
James 1:22–25 NKJV
But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.
Matthew 7:28–29 NKJV
And so it was, when Jesus had ended these sayings, that the people were astonished at His teaching, for He taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.
Astonished- ekplēssō- (ek-place'-so)- v. to be utterly amazed, to marvel, to be or become astounded to such a degree as to nearly lose one’s mental composure.
Why were they utterly amazed church? It’s because they just heard the Word of God from God himself! They just heard the greatest sermon, preached by the greatest preacher!!
Can you imagine??
They were astonished because Jesus did not quote this Rabbi or that Rabbi, but was the Word in flesh speaking to his listeners words of life church, words of life.
Not only did he astonish them, but he spoke with one having authority.
They never heard anything like it!
Jesus has spoken with authority in our lives over the last 30 sermons.
He has taught us the Sermon on the Mount, that should cause us to run to the Mount of Calvary.
His point is that apart form Him , we can do nothing church and I think that I should ask you the question:
Whose authority are you under? Is it your own? Is it an addiction? Is it your treasures? Or is it under the Lordship of Jesus Christ?
What is your foundation built on?
For those that make it into the Kingdom of heaven are those who hear the Word and do the word!

Prayer

Lord, thank you for this amazing sermon that should drive us to Calvary. Thank you for the last 30 weeks and for speaking truth into our lives week after week. Cause us Lord to reflect on this sermon and remind us often that apart from you, we can do nothing! Help us to remember that we are not saved by works, but by grace that is not of our selves for it is the gift of God! Thank you for your imputed righteousness and for the gift of the Holy Spirit that enables us to receive your Word and apply it into our lives. Help us o God, to find application for the teaching today!
IJN
Luke 6:47–48 NKJV
Whoever comes to Me, and hears My sayings and does them, I will show you whom he is like: He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently against that house, and could not shake it, for it was founded on the rock.
My hope is built on nothing less Than Jesus Christ, my righteousness; I dare not trust the sweetest frame, But wholly lean on Jesus’ name. On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand; All other ground is sinking sand,   All other ground is sinking sand.
THE LORD BLESS YOU!
