INTRO.

Many knew Jesus in his time, but few really ever saw him for who he truly was. Some would call him one of the prophets, teacher (rabbi), john the baptist, Elijah, Galilean, Nazarene, philosopher, cynic, crazy psycho… Yet in John 11:27-29 we find Martha a grieving sister, grieving for her brother Lazarus has died. During a traumatic even in her life we find out that she really knew who jesus was. She saw his works, heard his teachings, and when her faith in Jesus was challenged, she stood victorious with her five-fold view of Jesus.
Understand this Satan certainly wanted this tragic even to destroy her. For many of us here this morning there will be harsh, tragic events in our lives and satan will try to use this to destroy us. That is why we must know who Jesus is, truly know(relationship) so we can rise victorious in our faith just like Martha.
As we look at her fivefold belief in Jesus I want you to notice one thing. John 11:27 “She said to Him, “Yes, Lord; I have believed that You are the Christ, the Son of God, even He who comes into the world.”” perfect indicative active verb = I have believed in the past and I am continuing to believe right now. You see she determined who Jesus was long before this tragic event and we must to. We can’t wait to find our who Jesus is…quit procrastinating and know Jesus today. But notice she currently is believing right now. Right then and there in the heat of the moment. In the midst of her grief and her overwhelming emotions she still believes. Well…what did Martha believe?

Martha believed that Jesus is Lord

While life is filled with many masters, she viewed Jesus as her master. In our lives today we have so many masters. Our flesh can be our master, our emotions can be our master, our friends (peer pressure), our family (parents), our jobs can be our master, school, society, culture money etc. most of the time everything but Jesus is our master. Martha an early Christians acknowledged the Lordship of Jesus and we must as well. He must reign and rule our life. He is in control we listen to him and obey him above all else. Rom. 10:9-10 “that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.”

Martha believed that Jesus is the Christ

her confession is similar to Peters confession in Mt. 16:16 “Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”” Christ literally means the “the anointed one” or “messiah”. the messiah or anointed one is the special selected one from God. the one who was to be salvation for all mankind who was anointed with the holy spirit and the one who came to take away the sins of the world. Many today believe he was great man, a great teacher, maybe even a prophet but very few actually connect the dots and admit or realize that he is the messiah. Have you come to Jesus the messiah for salvation thru his blood thru belief, confession, repentance and baptism? Is the Christ in your life?

Martha believed that Jesus is the Son of God

this is a confession of his divinity, his deity. John 5:18 “For this reason therefore the Jews were seeking all the more to kill Him, because He not only was breaking the Sabbath, but also was calling God His own Father, making Himself equal with God.” the I am. This is a confession of his high position and power. Dan. 7:13-14 ““I kept looking in the night visions, And behold, with the clouds of heaven One like a Son of Man was coming, And He came up to the Ancient of Days And was presented before Him. “And to Him was given dominion, Glory and a kingdom, That all the peoples, nations and men of every language Might serve Him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion Which will not pass away; And His kingdom is one Which will not be destroyed.” He is not just a good guy or friend he is God. that means we honor him we worship him, he has first place in our life.

Martha believed that Jesus is he who comes into the world

this is a confession that Jesus was the fulfillment of old testament prophecies concerning the special deliverer who would come. she believed that he was the special agent sent by God to accomplish all of the great promises found in the O.T. there is no later one to come.

Martha believed Jesus is the teacher

The article “The” shows Jesus to be distinct from other teachers. There are a lot of voices trying speak to us. Who will we hear. He is the expert, he is the guide, he has wthe words of life. He is the way the truth the light. Who are you listening to?

Conclusion:

Martha deserves to be remembered by this great confession of faith, rather
than by her earlier distraction with meal preparations (Lk 10:41ff). If we will live our lives
with the same belief in Jesus, we will see Him as God wants us to see Him.
