What does the Bible say?
1 Timothy - Written to Timothy, leader in an Ephesian church.
1 Tim 2:12 “I do not permit a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man; rather, she is to remain quiet.”
Who: Paul, writing to Timothy, a pastor if an Ephesian church.
Why: He tells Timothy to remain in Ephesus and charge men not to teach any different doctrine. Hold strong to the faith and do not be spiritually shipwrecked.
When: Writing was towards the end of Paul’s life.
1 Corinthians 11:34-35 “if anyone is hungry, let him eat at home—so that when you come together it will not be for judgment. About the other things I will give directions when I come. If there is anything they desire to learn, let them ask their husbands at home. For it is shameful for a woman to speak in church.”
Paul, speaking to the church in Corinth about a situational issue and dealing with it. This is not universal but situational.
