INTRODUCTION: Beth vs my brother. different
Every relationship has rules:
Every relationship has rules:
1 Now even the first covenant had regulations for worship and an earthly place of holiness.
This indicates that both covenants had regulations for worship. Every ceremony, every relationship has rules that govern it.
Even pasco county joke....
2 For a tent was prepared, the first section, in which were the lampstand and the table and the bread of the Presence. It is called the Holy Place.
First as the tabernacle, they eventually built a temple.
Only priest were allowed in the actual tent. Long rectangular area was called the Holy Place.
Priests would go in every day, they would keep the lampstand going. They would replace the bread and add incense to the alter.
Only priests were allowed in this holy area.
3 Behind the second curtain was a second section called the Most Holy Place, 4 having the golden altar of incense and the ark of the covenant covered on all sides with gold, in which was a golden urn holding the manna, and Aaron’s staff that budded, and the tablets of the covenant.
Most Holy Place - no one got to see this. No one got to experience God’s presence.
alter of incense - wrong spot. Lots of opinion on this. Likely they moved it on the day of atonement. - Joke about not knowing where anythnig is around here.
ark of the covenant - the box of the covenant.
manna. - to remind them of God’s provision. Also points to the fact that Jesus was the bread of Life.
Aaron’s staff - emphasizing the role of the priesthood. Pointing to a greater priesthood, as Aaron was the one over this covenant.
that budded - in Numbers ___ there was a time when Aaron was challenged so they put everyone’s staff (the same staff that was used for the miracles in Eygpt) and Aaron’s staff started to bud indicating that God had chosen him.
tablets - The contract, the law itself.
Show picture.
5 Above it were the cherubim of glory overshadowing the mercy seat. Of these things we cannot now speak in detail.
cheribum - reminds us of the throne of God as angels circle around Him.
glory overshadowing - His Spirit would dwell there in a special way. Now He is on the throne of Grace in Heaven.
Even though this is but a copy and shadow. We still can’t talk about in detail. IT it is holy - we likely have lost some of the reverence.
It is the heart attitude that is important.
6 These preparations having thus been made, the priests go regularly into the first section, performing their ritual duties,
Every day the priests would go into the holy place to replace the candle, replace the bread, and alter of incense. The idea was was that the work was never done. Something else was always going to be needed.
7 but into the second only the high priest goes, and he but once a year, and not without taking blood, which he offers for himself and for the unintentional sins of the people.
High priest goes - once a year. No one could just walce on in there.
unintentional sins of the people. - forget about intentional sins. Ideally people were
8 By this the Holy Spirit indicates that the way into the holy places is not yet opened as long as the first section is still standing
Holy Spirit -
Holy places not yet opened. - veil between.
the old rules kept you away,
the old rules kept you away,
9 (which is symbolic for the present age). According to this arrangement, gifts and sacrifices are offered that cannot perfect the conscience of the worshiper,
symbolic for this present age - There was a veil, that was going to come to symbolize (literally the word parable, it was there to teach a lesson) that you always had to be kept out.
Show picture of sign in the temple.
illustration - keep out, secret forts as a kid.
Cannot perfect the conscience of the worshiper - Last week we learned the law of God is going to be written on his heart. Conscience is interesting word. Speaks of united one ‘s self. So becaues the law was not written on their heart, their heart is condeming them.
Dennis Prager - saod he does not care about the inward man. That lust is not wrong, only actions.
There law was the actual law (joke, wife killing you after adutlery)
10 but deal only with food and drink and various washings, regulations for the body imposed until the time of reformation.
time of reformation - there was always a timestame. decisive point.
Reforamtion - to stratigen out to the orginal form. - visual???
11 But when Christ appeared as a high priest of the good things that have come, then through the greater and more perfect tent (not made with hands, that is, not of this creation)
12 he entered once for all into the holy places, not by means of the blood of goats and calves but by means of his own blood, thus securing an eternal redemption.
Eternal redemption - He bought us and kept us. comapre to other one that was going to stop.
13 For if the blood of goats and bulls, and the sprinkling of defiled persons with the ashes of a heifer, sanctify for the purification of the flesh,
God didn;t care about the animals, he cared about making sure we knew sin cause death.
14 how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, purify our conscience from dead works to serve the living God.
dead works vs living God.
CONCLUSION: Palm Sunday - was called the DAy of the lambs. The day that they would have brought in 265k lambs into Jerusalmem, but instead of comingin the lamb gate, he came in the perfect gate.
On that friday, that passover he was being sacrificed at the very moment t he passover lamb was being sacrificed.
SHOW picture. - you were kept away.
But then viel was torn in two!
Allowing us to come int.
Focus on empty works or religion.
Viel being torn invting us in vs us being kept far away.
Day of Atonement.
Every relationship has rules: the old rules kept you away, the new rules invite you in.
the new rules invite you in.
the new rules invite you in.
Peter house .
Adultery not against the law anymore. You still get the death penelty but that is from your wife.
