Gems among the gloom
Psalm 119:25–32 NKJV
25 My soul clings to the dust; Revive me according to Your word. 26 I have declared my ways, and You answered me; Teach me Your statutes. 27 Make me understand the way of Your precepts; So shall I meditate on Your wonderful works. 28 My soul melts from heaviness; Strengthen me according to Your word. 29 Remove from me the way of lying, And grant me Your law graciously. 30 I have chosen the way of truth; Your judgments I have laid before me. 31 I cling to Your testimonies; O Lord, do not put me to shame! 32 I will run the course of Your commandments, For You shall enlarge my heart.
I. What the writer realized. VS 25-29

25 My soul clings to the dust; Revive me according to Your word.
1. The writer is no doubt is in the grip of deep depression. Maybe because of guilt (sin will do that)
a. He was flat on his face in the dust. He had come to the end of himself and his own recourses.
b. In today’s society he would be advised to go get some professional help. Maybe some group therapy where everyone sits around and talks about their problems. Elab
c. The writer of this Psalm takes his problem to the Lord.
d.”Revive me” Means restore life into me.
e. “ according to your word. What he needed was a good dose of scripture, taken with a mixture of faith.
f. This is what we need to do in our lives, not just from time to time but every day. If we stay in God’s words we will be confronted with our problems.
g. The writer had discovered that this was the best way to handle his depression.
h. If we are going to get into God’s word to deal with our problems we need to be prepared.

Psalm 119:26 NKJV
26 I have declared my ways, and You answered me; Teach me Your statutes.
“I have declared my ways”
Confession is marvelous therapy.
It is okay to confess to somebody else (not talking if you have done them wrong in some way) I mean confessing to them your ways.
My ways: Course of life.
The writer here takes his problems to the Lord. He came before the Lord and poured out his heart to him. This is the way it should be.
Right from the beginning of the bible God tells us this. Gen 3:9-11
God wanted a confession from Adam. You can have a solution to your problem until you have a confession.
“You answered me: To pay attention, respond.
Statutes: Something prescribed.
Psalm 119:27 NKJV
27 Make me understand the way of Your precepts; So shall I meditate on Your wonderful works.
Help me to understand: distinguish.
The way of your precepts: Commandment.
So shall I meditate: Ponder, meditate/ converse.
Wondrous works: Surpassing/extraordinary.
Psalm 119:28 NKJV
28 My soul melts from heaviness; Strengthen me according to Your word.
Melts: To drip. To leak with tears.
This is a poetic way of expressing weeping.
Heaviness:
Strengthen: To stand up.
VS 29
Psalm 119:29 NKJV
29 Remove from me the way of lying, And grant me Your law graciously.
Remove: Depart.
Lying: Falsehood/deception/disappointment.
Grant me they law: Commandments.
Graciously: A show of favor.
II. What the writher resolved. VS 30-32
Psalm 119:30 NKJV
30 I have chosen the way of truth; Your judgments I have laid before me.
Chosen: Elab on the chooses we have and make.
Truth: Firmness/security.
Read last part and elab judgments: Verdict.
Psalm 119:31 NKJV
31 I cling to Your testimonies; O Lord, do not put me to shame!

Cling: Cling/keep close.

32 I will run the course of Your commandments, For You shall enlarge my heart.
Run: To move swiftly.
Enlarge: Broaden.
Heart: Inner man/mind
