Matthew Part 80

Text: Matthew 21:33-46.

Verse 33

Jesus is drawing off of Isaiah 5. (others like Is. 3:13-15 and Ps. 80:8-18)

The Mast of the House is God

The Vineyard here is the kingdom of God

God provided everything needed for the vineyard

the tenants are the religious leaders of Israel

Verse 34-36

the servants would be the prophets that God has sent to hold them accountable

Matt. 5:12.

Jesus would later lay their blood at their feet Matt. 23:29-35.

They refused to pay for one reason or another

Verse 37

The Son here is Jesus

The master of the vineyard has been more than patient with them

Verse 38-39

they want to have jurisdiction of the vineyard and they actually think they can do it

Verse 40-41

Jesus gets them to condemn themselves

Verse 42-44

verse 42 quotes Ps. 118:22-23.

κεφαλή - Head, cornerstone, important stone

either a cornerstone for a foundation or a capstone for an arch

verse 43

just like what they said in verse 41

this would be replacing religious elite with Jewish apostles and bringing in the gentiles

verse 44

either cornerstone or capstone

Riffing off of Is. 8:14.

a sanctuary to the faithful and judgement to the unfaithful

Daniel 2:34, 44.

destroying earthly kingdoms and replacing them with the kingdom of God

Verse 45-46

so, instead of the parable being a warning to them and trying to repent, they further its fulfilment
