Romans 9:21-33
Romans 9:21-33
21 Does not the potter have power over the clay, from the same lump to make one vessel for honor and another for dishonor?
What in your life honors God? Specifically?
The word honor there means putting a value or price on something
What value or price do you put on the things you do in your life?
Is it costing us something to serve God?
22 What if God, wanting to show His wrath and to make His power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath prepared for destruction,
-The wrath of God is letting us eat the fruit of our own way
-Even when we were yet sinners Christ died
-God extends us grace no matter where we are
23 and that He might make known the riches of His glory on the vessels of mercy, which He had prepared beforehand for glory,
He glories in the fact that he gives us second chances and extends us mercy
Are there situations in you life that you should be extending mercy instead of justice?
How do you know how to operate in and out of both?
24 even us whom He called, not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles?
The elect which Paul refers to is the Jews(disputed), but God offers Grace to everyone
25 As He says also in Hosea:
“I will call them My people, who were not My people,
And her beloved, who was not beloved.”
26 “And it shall come to pass in the place where it was said to them,
‘You are not My people,’
There they shall be called sons of the living God.”
We are now considered sons of the Living God
What type of impact does that make on your thinking of who God is?
How has religion tried to paint us into a different relationship with God?
27 Isaiah also cries out concerning Israel:
“Though the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea,
The remnant will be saved.
28 For He will finish the work and cut it short in righteousness,
Because the Lord will make a short work upon the earth.”
God extends his grace to all
9 The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.
Not chosen people, not a certain few but All
29 And as Isaiah said before:
“Unless the Lord of Sabaoth had left us a seed,
We would have become like Sodom,
And we would have been made like Gomorrah.”
30 What shall we say then? That Gentiles, who did not pursue righteousness, have attained to righteousness, even the righteousness of faith;
How do we attain righteousness?
What is the righteousness of faith?
What argument does that make for people who try to intellectualize God’s word?
Without FAITH it is IMPOSSIBLE to please HIM
31 but Israel, pursuing the law of righteousness, has not attained to the law of righteousness. 32 Why? Because they did not seek it by faith, but as it were, by the works of the law. For they stumbled at that stumbling stone. 33 As it is written:
“Behold, I lay in Zion a stumbling stone and rock of offense,
And whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.”
WE must seek in Faith( I cannot stress this enough)
Without Faith there’s nothing to stand on
The Gospel becomes a stumbling stone for those not of Faith
How do you see the word “Trip” people up when it comes to morality?
How important is it for us to study to show ourselves approved so we don’t stumble ourselves?
15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
We are the keepers of the Faith
How do we keep it?
17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
