Advice #37
ADVICE DAD NEVER GAVE YOU
Ralph Sorter
Years ago in south Florida, a boy went swimming in a lake behind his house. Looking out the window, his mother saw an alligator swimming towards him. She ran to the lake and screamed as loud as she could for her son to return. Just as the boy reached his mother at the dock, she grabbed his arms, but the alligator latched onto his legs. That began an incredible tug-of-war between the two. The alligator was much stronger than the mother, but she was too passionate to let go. A farmer driving by heard her screams, raced from his truck and shot the alligator.
Remarkably, after weeks in the hospital, the little boy survived. His legs were extremely scarred by the attack of the alligator. On his arms were deep scratches where his mother’s fingernails dug into his flesh in her effort to hang on to the son she loves.
The newspaper reporter who interviewed the boy asked if he would show him his scars. The boy lifted his pant legs. Then, with obvious pride, he said to the reporter, “But look at my arms. I have these because my Mom wouldn’t let go!”
Every child needs parents who will not let go! Too many things in this world would like to latch onto your child and pull them down to destruction. But love is stronger than any evil that would hold a death-grip on your child. Never…never…never give up!
Even when your child seems to be pushing away your love, you can see from your advantage point the evil that lurks to devour them. Scripture says love covers a multitude of sins. Your love must never lose its grip!
Someone else who loves you has scars. The scars on His back and head are what the evil one did to Him. But the scars on His hands and feet are there to remind you that He would not come down from the cross when He had the power to. He willingly gripped the nails so He would never lose His grip on YOU!
