Unity
Unity
Genesis 3:11-13 “And He said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you that you should not eat?” Then the man said, “The woman whom You gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate.” And the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.””
Luke 15:30 “But as soon as this son of yours came, who has devoured your livelihood with harlots, you killed the fatted calf for him.’”
Genesis 2:24 “Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.”
Unity
Matthew 12:25 “But Jesus knew their thoughts, and said to them: “Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and every city or house divided against itself will not stand.”
Amos 3:3-5 “Can two walk together, unless they are agreed? Will a lion roar in the forest, when he has no prey? Will a young lion cry out of his den, if he has caught nothing? Will a bird fall into a snare on the earth, where there is no trap for it? Will a snare spring up from the earth, if it has caught nothing at all?”
Blame hinders prayer.
3 Types of blame
Blame God
Blame others
Blame self
Blame blocks intimacy
John 17:20-21 ““I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me.”
Luke 22:42 “saying, “Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done.””
When we are blaming others we are not in unity and it is much harder to desire God’s will over ours.
1 Corinthians 1:10 “Now I plead with you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.”
1 Peter 3:8 “Finally, all of you be of one mind, having compassion for one another; love as brothers, be tenderhearted, be courteous;”
Colossians 3:14 “But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection.”
Romans 12:16 “Be of the same mind toward one another. Do not set your mind on high things, but associate with the humble. Do not be wise in your own opinion.”
1 Corinthians 12:21-26 “And the eye cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you”; nor again the head to the feet, “I have no need of you.” No, much rather, those members of the body which seem to be weaker are necessary. And those members of the body which we think to be less honorable, on these we bestow greater honor; and our unpresentable parts have greater modesty, but our presentable parts have no need. But God composed the body, having given greater honor to that part which lacks it, that there should be no schism in the body, but that the members should have the same care for one another. And if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; or if one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it.”
Day of Atonement- feast of the Lord
2 goats- One sacrificed the other had a scarlet wool thread tied around its head. It was released into the wilderness and when it returned the thread was white to represent their sins had not been held against them for another year.
After Jesus died and was resurrected, for the next 40 years, the thread stopped turning white. The goat returned with the scarlet thread and this did not look good. It seemed as if their sins were returning and had not been forgiven. The western lamp that was continually burning also went out. This represented the presence of God had left the temple and had entered into God’s people.
Because the goat kept returning with the scarlet thread, they began to take the goat to a cliff and throw him off the top to make sure he could not return with the scarlet thread.
Jesus will be returning again.
He was the goat of sacrifice and He is our scapegoat. He took the blame for you and me.
If He took the blame why would we want that blame to go to someone else or to ourselves?
He took the blame for our sins, but He is not at fault for your rebellion today. He is not at fault for your pride today. He is not at fault for your blame today.
Pride
Own your stuff
When Jesus comes back you won’t be able to say- “The woman you gave me” or “The serpent deceived me”
At-One-Ment
Jesus wanted you to be at one with Him and He wants you to be at one with others.
“One accord”
Acts church- If there is division it will block and quench the Spirit—in a church or in a home.
Repent and allow Holy Spirit to soften your heart
Truly forgive and let go
