What do you believe about anxiety? Do you believe it’s sinful, normal, a sign you’re lacking faith? From where do your thoughts about anxiety originate?
2. What is the difference between worry and legitimate and healthy concern? What are some example of healthy concerns that you have right now in your life? What are some examples of concerns that you have that have turned into worries?
3. Take a moment to review Jesus’ words in Matthew 6:25-34. What kinds of worry did Jesus talk about in the passage? Why should we not worry? What does this tell you about how God feels about us and the details of our lives?
4. Read Philippians 4:6. What does Paul advise us to do with our worries? What role does thanksgiving, or gratitude, play when it comes to our worries?
5. Review the eight worry stoppers. Which of these have you used to help combat worry? Which ones would be useful to help with your current anxieties?
6. Ask someone in the group to read Exodus 16:1-4, 17-20. Why do you think God commanded the Israelites to gather just enough manna for the day? Why do you think some disregarded this command? Why is it hard to trust God with our daily needs?
7. Ask someone to reread Matthew 6:33-34. Why does seeking God first help to alleviate our worries? What is an example from your life when you’ve sought something other than God first? What kind of anxieties arose as a result?
8. What keeps you from bringing certain worries to Christ? What do you need to believe about Him today in order to bring all of your worries to Him?
