Pray before beginning
12 Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him. 13 Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone. 14 But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. 15 Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.
16 Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren. 17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning. 18 Of His own will He brought us forth by the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of His creatures.
[[[verse 15 talks about desire being conceived, it first begins in the mind, what goes on in the mind is where the battle of choice is fought and decided of which way are you going to go, the way of the flesh which is sin or the way of the Spirit which leads to victory in Jesus Christ..Gal 5:16-17 So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will never fulfill the desires of the flesh. (17) For what the flesh wants is opposed to the Spirit, and what the Spirit wants is opposed to the flesh. They are opposed to each other, and so you do not do what you want to do.
"or maybe there is no fight, maybe you are not living by the Spirit of God, maybe there is full surrender to the desire, and that is when sin is conceived, we all have desires that can ensnare us, they are either connected to the desires of the flesh or to the Spirit that dwells in us ... but what God is saying through James is a serious warning about the sinful nature of our flesh on how if we choose to follow it.( and I have).. will lead us into a trap of deceptive, slavery, secrecy, guilt and shame and if not repented of, it will lead to death....because that is what our adversary.....wants....1Pe 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. ...just to be clear in our understanding these warnings are to those who are born again believers in Jesus Christ... we can’t think that we don’t need these warnings...we need all of these warnings....here is what Paul says to all of us...1Co 10:12 Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall... when I read these verses of warning in 14-16 But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. 15 Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death. 16 Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren.( this is a life and death warning) I have in the past, thought that these verses almost have a sense of finality, that once you fall back into the grip of sin..and then you are a prisoner and you can’t get out. This is not true... but that is what our adversary wants us to believe..( we must remember that God is Merciful; 1Jn 1:8-9 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. (9) If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
but we must understand that there can be consequences... a good example is King David, who is known for being a man after God’s own heart and is in line of Jesus Christ also known as The Son of David, but King David fell into adultery with Bathsheba and for the murder of her husband Uriah the Hittite....the consequence for David was that God
2Sa 12:11-14 Thus says the LORD: 'Behold, I will raise up adversity against you from your own house; and I will take your wives before your eyes and give them to your neighbor, and he shall lie with your wives in the sight of this sun. (12) For you did it secretly, but I will do this thing before all Israel, before the sun.' " (13) So David said to Nathan, "I have sinned against the LORD." And Nathan said to David, "The LORD also has put away your sin; you shall not die. (14) However, because by this deed you have given great occasion to the enemies of the LORD to blaspheme, the child also who is born to you shall surely die." to this kind of thing apostle Paul wrote regarding the Old Testament in 1Co 10:11 The things that happened to those people are examples. They were written to be warnings for us. We live in the time that all those past histories were pointing to.
that is why we need to be reading and hearing the word of God continually, going through Genesis to Revelation, getting the full council of God in our lives, regular Church attendance as we are being sanctified, and it is not easy, we may stumble, we may fall, but we get up and we continue and we don’t look back,...
the new Living Translation Php 3:12–14...12 I don’t mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me. 13 No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, 14 I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us. There are other verses that have the theme of not looking back, because the past will slow you down, so here is one more pair of verses; Heb 12:1–2.
12 Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God....
Verses 17 and 18
17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning. 18 Of His own will He brought us forth by the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of His creatures.
In other words this from the ERV and the CEV versions of the Bible;
Jas 1:17 Everything good comes from God. Every perfect gift is from him. These good gifts come down from the Father who made all the lights in the sky. But God never changes like the shadows from those lights. He is always the same.
Jas 1:18 He wanted us to be his own special people, and so he sent the true message to give us new birth.
Everyone of us has a birthday and as we grow up we may enjoy those birthdays, when we are young we may get a lot of gifts and even when we get older, but we got tired of those things they either get broken or fall apart and wind up in the trash and the trash man takes them away, then they are only memories... But God our Father Who made everything, everything was good for a little while... you can read about it in the Bible, God’s true message to us, the first man and the first lady, well, they made a choice to disregard God’s serious warning, and chose to go their own way, just like it says in; Isa 53:6 All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned, every one, to his own way; And the LORD has laid on Him( Jesus Christ) the iniquity(SIN) of us all. God The Father sent His Only Son, that whoever believes in Him … Just because of that belief in Jesus Christ you will have that Good and perfect Gift of eternal life in Jesus Christ and to be His own special people. New birth, new life, where old things are passing away, and the new is continuing!!!
Anyone who desires new life in Jesus Christ pray with me to receive Him as your Lord and Savior… let’s pray… Father in Heaven… I confess to you, that I have sinned against you… I pray for forgiveness and I pray to receive your Son Jesus Christ who died on the cross for my sins and I believe that you raised Him from the dead, and Lord help me follow you with the joy of the peace I will now have with you..... I pray these things in the Name of Jesus Your Son… Amen
