EPHESIANS 5

“When my daughter was just close to two years old she was sitting on the couch with me. My second child was just a newer baby, probably a few weeks old, and while we were sitting watching Barney, I was nursing him.  My daughter had her stuffies and doll sitting around her while she watched her show, and when I looked over at her at one point, I noticed she was holding her doll so she could nurse it too.  The funnier part was the look on her face as if this was just an everyday thing to do! I guess it was! It took everything I had not to laugh because it was so cute!” ~Christine, mother of 5
Ephesians 5:1–2 NKJV
Therefore be imitators of God as dear children. And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.
God is love
God walked in love
John 3:16 NKJV
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
John 13:34 NKJV
A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.
Just as God forgave us we must forgive others
freely
fully
Results are imitating God..
Ephesians 5:3–7 NKJV
But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as is fitting for saints; neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks. For this you know, that no fornicator, unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. Therefore do not be partakers with them.
Fornication- sexual immorality
1 Corinthians 6:18 NKJV
Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body.
1 Corinthians 6:19 NKJV
Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?
Uncleanness
Matthew 15:18–20 ASV
But the things which proceed out of the mouth come forth out of the heart; and they defile the man. For out of the heart come forth evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, railings: these are the things which defile the man; but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not the man.
We work on how people see us. we work on the outward part of us.
But where people can’t see is what is important to God. God looks at our heart.
covetousness
worship of the creature instead of the creator. This is the highest treason against king of kings.
Matthew 6:24 NKJV
“No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.
1 John 2:15 NKJV
Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
Ephesians 5:1–7 NKJV

But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as is fitting for saints; neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks. coarse jesting is crude joking
What Paul is saying is that these things as believers we need to be leary of people who are living these kinds of life and oppose the christian way of life. Paul isn’t forbidding us to have no contact with them. Jesus taught us to befriend unbelievers.
Luke 5:30–32 ASV
And the Pharisees and their scribes murmured against his disciples, saying, Why do ye eat and drink with the publicans and sinners? And Jesus answering said unto them, They that are in health have no need of a physician; but they that are sick. I am not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance.
Paul is writing against the lifestyle of people that make excuses for this behavior and recommend this behavior to others.
We are to be imitating God.
Let no one deceive you.
if one man jumps off the bridge are you???
Don’t be partakers with them.
