This morning we are going to look at the last days after He arrived on a donkey and before He is betrayed by Judas and arrested by the Temple Guards!
Jesus was very intentional about what He did durning this time! Why you ask, great question! Jesus knew what was about to happen to Him and understood why it was going and it purpose was to reach the world with the message that God sent Him here to do!
Too many times in life we get distracted and loose our focus and the mission that is before us.
We have to learn to be disciplined and to stay on task so that we may accomplish our duty, assignment, obligations, commitment and what has been asked of us to do!
We are going to look the different events that took place durning this time frame!
Who in here thinks they have had a busy last few days?
The Triumphal Entry
Most of the crowd spread their cloaks on the road, and others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. And the crowds that went before him and that followed him were shouting, “Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!” And when he entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred up, saying, “Who is this?”
Jesus Cleanses the Temple and Heals
And Jesus entered the temple and drove out all who sold and bought in the temple, and he overturned the tables of the money-changers and the seats of those who sold pigeons. He said to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer,’ but you make it a den of robbers.” And the blind and the lame came to him in the temple, and he healed them.
The Withered Fig Tree
And seeing a fig tree by the wayside, he went to it and found nothing on it but only leaves. And he said to it, “May no fruit ever come from you again!” And the fig tree withered at once.
Lesson from the Fig Tree
And Jesus answered them, “Truly, I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what has been done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ it will happen. And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith.”
Parable of the Two Sons
Matthew 21:28-32
Matthew and Mark Commentary
The call of the Father into the Kingdom is still powerful today, but entrance into the Kingdom is promised not to those who merely say “Lord, Lord,” but to those who actually do the will of the Father
Parable of the Wicked Vine Dresser
Matthew 21:33-46
This parable is about the message being sent out, it is not who gave it, but about who sent it! The rejection from the vine dresser is his thinking that he knew better and ended up rejecting Christ.
Parable of the Wedding Feast
Matthew 22:1-14
Again Jesus is letting us know that we need to make a decision to either accept or reject His invitation to belong and be apart.
Is it Lawful to Pay Taxes to Caesar?
They said, “Caesar’s.” Then he said to them, “Therefore render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.”
What About the Resurrection
Matthew 22:23-33
The issue here is that they were trying to set a trap for Jesus by asking about the resurrection. The jewish leaders lost sight of what Jesus and God wanted them to understand. That is in and through Jesus there will a resurrection for all accept Jesus as Lord.
What is the First Commandment of All
And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
Woe to the Scribes and Pharisees
Matthew 23:1-36
Jesus is warning us to be aware of the false teachings and the idea of do as I say, but not as I do! Out life with Christ is to be more than words only, but action as well.
Jesus Laments Over Jerusalem
“O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often would I have gathered your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were not willing! See, your house is left to you desolate. For I tell you, you will not see me again, until you say, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.’ ”
Jesus Predicts the Destruction of the Temple
Matthew 24:1-14
Jesus wants us again to understand that there is a life after death so He explains about the destruction of the Temple. But the temple is not the building He is referring to it is His death and resurrection.
The Great Tribulation

Jesus in His last days is wanting to make sure that we understand what is coming and that we will face some major obstacles as time draws too and end. We will have to make s decision.
The Coming of the Son of Man
Matthew 24:29-31
Jesus is going to come back, but not the way that others are trying to get you to buy into. When He comes back it will be to gather His church and take them home with Him.
Parable of the Fig Tree
Matthew 24:32-35
the body of Christ, the Church is suppose to bring about growth and fruit. It is not to be laying in wait for what is to come, we will just wither and die.
No Ones Knows the Day or Hour
Matthew 24:36-44
I know since I have been alive there have been several so called men and women of God, that Jesus was coming back on this date. If we think we know when He is coming back we are wrong and He will not show up.
The Faithful Servant and The Evil Servant
Matthew 24:45-51
Another illustration of how we are to act and live for Christ at all time and not get caught up in the world.
Parable of the Wise and Foolish Virgins
Matthew 25:1-13
We are to be ready at all times, let us not be caught off guard because we were not prepared for His return. We will not have time to make the decision.
Parable of the Talents
Matthew 25:14-30
What are we doing with the gifts that we were given? Are we putting them to work for the kingdom or are we hiding them away until His return?
The Son of Man Will Judges the Nations
Matthew 25:31-46
Here is one of the most powerful sections of scripture, about how we treat others. When you do it unto the least of these you have done it unto to me. It is truly about the heart condition are we just checking off boxes, or do we really care?
Plot to Kill Jesus
Matthew 26:1-13
Jesus knows what is about to happen and He reveals it to the disciples. In just 2 days them will kill me, but don’t fear God has a plan.
Judas Agrees to Betray Jesus
Matthew 26:14-25
Greed is one of the greatest motivators to turn on another, this is what Judas does for just 30 pieces of silver.
Celebrating the passover Institutes the Lord’s Supper
Matthew 26:17-30
Celebrating the passover from death to life and calling out His betrayer Judas and establishing of communion. This is so very important because He lets us know that He is coming back.
Jesus Predicts Peter’s Denial
Matthew 26:31-35
Jesus warns of Peter’s denial, now understand this is not a betrayal. It is something that each of will or have experienced in our lives already. It is when we are afraid to speak up about our relationship with Jesus.
Prayer in the Garden
Matthew 26:36-46
Another important lesson to learn here hanging on and not loosing heart, but knowing it is not about our will but God’s will being done.
Betrayal and Arrest of Jesus
Matthew 26:47-68
Judas bring the temple guards and betrays Jesus with a kiss and is arrested. What we learn here is just go with it God has it all under control.
Peter’s Denial
Matthew 26:69-75
Peter is faced with some tough questions about his relationship with Jesus and he denies that he knows Him. Not just once but 3 different times.
What will or how will we respond in our times of trouble?
We all have a decision to make, what will it be?
All these events that Jesus either did and shared about were to help us understand God’s mercy, grace, forgiveness, love, power, faithfulness and provision!
But in order for us to receives these gifts of blessing Jesus had to come, Jesus had to die, Jesus had to walk in this world as a mere mortal in the flesh of a human body.
So that we could have the perfect redemption or in other words forgiveness of our sinful life!
Jesus last days where all about you and me and what we will face or have to deal with and the choices we make.
Our choices have consequences, some good with eternal rewards and some with eternal damnation.
The choice is ours and ours alone!
