THE TRUE MEANING OF EASTER
Jesse Morrison Ayomah –– 1st April 2023
INTRODUCTION
I want to talk to you today about the true meaning of Easter. How it absolutely affects our entire lives.
The New Testament doesn't start at the book of Matthew. The New Testament, starts at the death, or after the death of Jesus Christ.
Let me ask you this question and the question is this, Why did Jesus die? Now, most people will give this answer. Jesus died for our sins. Yeah, but what does that mean?
I mean, it sounds religious and everything, but why did Jesus die?
Because if we don't know why Jesus died, then it might be a waste of time.
What is this celebration on Easter about when we celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus?
What is that all about? Absolutely he died for our sins, but was that it?
Well, Jesus died so we can have a right to the tree of life. Well, what does that mean?
THE FALL
When man disobeyed God, it brought sin to the all mankind
The law was given for man to to see how helpless man is. And God brought the ultimate solution.
The law itself is pefect but because of the sinful nature of man, man couldnt keep it.
It brought sickness
APPL:
The reason that Jesus died is because, you know, if I have a will and I left that will to my family, that will would not be of any force until I died.
In other words, you couldn't get what I left in my last will and testament until I die.
Jesus death and resurrection has everything to do with our life. He left a will, which we call the new testament to he church.
Hebrews 8:6 NLT But now Jesus, our High Priest, has been given a ministry that is far superior to the old priesthood, for he is the one who mediates for us a far better covenant with God, based on better promises.
So his death doesn't mean anything if you continue to operate by the old agreement when he has a new one.
His blood, his death means nothing if you call yourself a Christian and you're still operating by the pattern of the old agreement when there's a new one.
Many christians are not taking advantage of the new covenant. We need to take advantage of the purpose for his death".
I. What His death means:
1.Now look at Galatians chapter 3:13.
Galatians 3:13-14 NKJV
Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, "Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree"), [14] that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.
"Christ has redeemed us". The word "redeemed" means to be delivered.
He delivered us. He set us free through the ransom that was paid.
A. When Jesus shed His precious blood, He offered the only sacrifice needed to provide for all of your needs in time and in eternity.
It means everything before the throne of God; it’s the only means by which God can give you acceptance, and the only means by which you can have access to God’s presence and all of the blessings that He has for you.
B. What’s important to remember is that Jesus’ blood also means everything to Satan and all of his hosts.
They know it’s by the blood that they suffer everlasting defeat; they don’t have an answer to the blood of Jesus.
Satan knows the power of that blood. He fears that power and is defeated by it. That’s why your total victory in this world is in the blood of Jesus!
There is enough power in it to meet every single one of your needs.
You have to believe and have faith in all that God’s Word says about the blood of Jesus. Have faith that:
You’re healed because of the blood.
You’re delivered because of the blood.
Your needs are met because of the blood.
You have authority over the devil, over pestilence, and over the coronavirus, because of the blood.
II. Now: appropriate!
To appropriate means to take possession of.
If Jesus shed His blood for you to have something, you need to take it.
The blood of Jesus and the power that’s invested in it won’t work for you unless you personally appropriate it and take possession of it for yourself.
For instance, you’re already saved and you’re already protected, so take personal possession of that.
Then, expect! Expectation is the breeding ground for miracles, and is also a ground for the blood of Jesus to begin to produce and operate in your life.
Expect for God to confirm His Word in your life because of the blood.
III. The Cost of Discipleship (Living in Obedience)
Luke 9:57-62 NKJV
Now it happened as they journeyed on the road, that someone said to Him, "Lord, I will follow You wherever You go." [58] And Jesus said to him, "Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head." [59] Then He said to another, "Follow Me." But he said, "Lord, let me first go and bury my father." [60] Jesus said to him, "Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and preach the kingdom of God." [61] And another also said, "Lord, I will follow You, but let me first go and bid them farewell who are at my house." [62] But Jesus said to him, "No one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God."
Kims favourite sentence: Life is full of Choices, choices, choices
The decision to follow Christ is the most important decision we will make, for it leads to eternal life.
Jesus said we must live everything behind to follow Him. This is a decision that every believer will have to make.
In Num 3:12 J just as God told Moses that the levites are His, so do every Christian belongs to Christ from this world. We belong to Him. We are His forever.
We are like a necklesess on His neck
The true essence of life is in Jesus Christ.
We need to make up our mind to live for Him. Many christians have not made up their mind.
Jesus followers enjoyed great success on their missions, and they understandably rejoiced that "even the demons obey us when we use Your name!" (v. 17).
But Jesus replied, "Don't rejoice because evil spirits obey you; rejoice because your names are registered in heaven" (v.20).
Jesus is always taking us out of our comfort zone.
This is not the reaction Jesus wants. He wants us to simply be thankful that we belong to the Lord of heaven and earth and have the privilege of seeing Him work.
