The Man Joseph

Very little is written about this man Joseph. But his role in the coming of the messiah was fundamental.
His obedience and surrender to God pathed the way for Jesus.
He was the earthly father of Jesus
The man who named him Jesus.
The man who raised Jesus as his own child.
Joseph was the man who took Mary to be his wife even after she was found with child.
Matthew 1:18–25 NKJV
Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit. Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not wanting to make her a public example, was minded to put her away secretly. But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.” So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying: “Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.” Then Joseph, being aroused from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord commanded him and took to him his wife, and did not know her till she had brought forth her firstborn Son. And he called His name Jesus.

Mary Was Found with Child

Matthew 1:18 NKJV
Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit.
This is an awkward situation. She is engaged to Joseph and finds herself pregnant.
Even though it was of the Holy Spirit, not everyone would believe her or accept that kind of explanation.
Joseph however was a Just/Upright man. A man who had a desire to do what is right.
A man who was willing to show mercy and kindness.
Matthew 1:19 NKJV
Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not wanting to make her a public example, was minded to put her away secretly.
He thought he would secretly divorce her and keep her from suffering public humiliation.

But God had different plans!

Matthew 1:20 NKJV
But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.
God used and angel in a dream to speak to Joseph.
Interesting an angel in a dream

God will find a way to speak to you His Will

“do not be afraid” To take Mary...
What is happening is of the Holy Spirit!

Do not fear the Work of the Holy Spirit In You and Others

Joseph became the man who didn’t shy away from the work of the Holy Spirit in Mary, Instead He became her covering through it.
We need Men who will become a covering for the work of God.
Men who aren’t afraid of the things they don’t understand or can’t explain.
Matthew 1:21 NKJV
And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.”
Joseph was instructed to call His name Jesus or Salvation, because He will save people from their sins

The work of the Holy Spirit in us will bring life to us and all those around us!

Matthew 1:22 NKJV
So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying:

The Work of the Holy Spirit will always be confirmed by the Word of God!

Matthew 1:23 NKJV
“Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.”

God with us! Imagine the possibilities...

Matthew 1:24 NKJV
Then Joseph, being aroused from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord commanded him and took to him his wife,
How are we responding to God’s work in us? Are we taking God’s work seriously or is what God wants not important to us?
Matthew 1:25 NKJV
and did not know her till she had brought forth her firstborn Son. And he called His name Jesus.

Joseph’s participation in this great miracle of God was fruit of his obedience to God’s ways.

Even when they don’t make sense in the natural.
