b. Context/Background of Jeremiah (context)
As we open up yet another prophet this week- we turn to Jeremiah- the longest book of the Bible in terms of number of words.
Jeremiah was a prophet born into a priestly family
II. When God Calls....Obedience to God’s Call/(Jeremiah 1)
a. Chosen/Called by God 1:1-5
i. I knew You
ii. I set you apart
iii. I appointed you
b. Equipped by God 1:6-19
i. SANCTIFICATION: Through reminders of his character/faithfulness
1. Forces us to rely on Him…to trust him…
2. God hears our objections
3. God is faithful--> Do not be afraid (in a moment of objection, God says..do you trust me? Do you trust me with the logistics)
ii. Through his Presence ( vs 8)
iii. Through his promise (1:11-19
1. God will honor his word
2. Disaster is coming
III. When we Obey
Costly obedience:
tried by a jury for sermonic exploits in the temple (26:11-15)
put into stocks for predicting the destruction of Jerusalem
