The grave could not hold Him

Tomorrow will be a night of singing. It is an important night to us because we are a singing people.
Singing helps us remember important truths.
Singing helps us engage our emotions with truth.
Singing expresses our blood bought unity.
Jesus died to redeem a world-wide, eternal choir.
One day when Heaven was filled with His praises One day when sin was as black as could be Jesus came forth to be born of a virgin Dwelt among men, my example is He Word became flesh and the light shined among us His glory revealed
… Living, He loved me Dying, He saved me Buried, He carried my sins far away Rising, He justified freely forever One day He's coming Oh glorious day, oh glorious day
… One day they led Him up Calvary's mountain One day they nailed Him to die on a tree Suffering anguish, despised and rejected Bearing our sins, my Redeemer is He Hands that healed nations, stretched out on a tree And took the nails for me
… Living, He loved me Dying, He saved me Buried, He carried my sins far away Rising, He justified freely forever One day He's coming Oh glorious day, oh glorious day
… One day the grave could conceal Him no longer One day the stone rolled away from the door Then He arose, over death He had conquered Now is ascended, my Lord evermore Death could not hold Him, the grave could not keep Him From rising again

What do we mean when we say “death could not hold Him?”

Love this verse! Matthew 27:65 “65 Pilate said unto them, Ye have a watch: go your way, make it as sure as ye can.”

Ought not Christ

Luke 24:25-26 “25 Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken: 26 Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory?”
Acts 2:24 “24 Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it.
Hebrews 7:16 “16 Who is made, not after the law of a carnal commandment, but after the power of an endless life.

Why can’t the grave keep Him?

God is a Promise Keeper
Jesus is Sinless
The Cross was Effective

God is a promise Keeper

God’s anointed king would fulfill the promise of God’s word.

Fulfillment of the promises shared by the prophets.

Acts 10:43 “43 To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.”

Jesus is sinless

Death and Satan had no claim on him because Jesus was sinless.
1 Timothy 3:16 “16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.”

The Cross was Effective

The resurrection confirms that his death on the cross worked. It counted. It was effective.
Romans 4:25 “25 Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.”

Closing

These are the reasons the “grave could not hold Him” they should also be the reason that our hearts should not be able to contain our praise for Him! Let us come tomorrow night ready to worship with all of our hearts!
