Mark 14:1–3 NIV
Now the Passover and the Festival of Unleavened Bread were only two days away, and the chief priests and the teachers of the law were scheming to arrest Jesus secretly and kill him. “But not during the festival,” they said, “or the people may riot.” While he was in Bethany, reclining at the table in the home of Simon the Leper, a woman came with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, made of pure nard. She broke the jar and poured the perfume on his head.
Jesus is in Bethany at the house of Simon the leper. The stage was set for his arrest and persecution. The anger and scheming of the Pharisees and scribes reached fever pitch.
Can we face the will of God knowing it will be difficult.
Can you drink of the cup knowing it will be better. Can you be baptized with the baptism of Christ although it may be painful? Jesus said, “if anyone would come after me, let them deny themselves, take up the cross, and follow me.”
The day was Holy Wednesday. Pilgrim and God worshippers came from all over. Over a half million people could fill Jerusalem during this celebration.
The Passover recalled when the angel of death took the firstborn of all Egypt. God spared Israel for they marked the doors of their households with lamb’s blood.
The Festival of unleavened Bread followed. For 7 days, Isreal would remember the feast. Moses commanded the people ate bread without yeast because they had no time to make it in the normal way. They had to leave Egypt in haste. This was the most holy time in Jerusalem.
All of Israel prepared for the celebration of Passover and unleavened bread, the scribes and Pharisees were scheming on how they could kill Jesus.
The ones who should be leading worship by the ones who are conspiring to kill the Savior. Disconnect to the scripture, The Word of God says, “he came into his own and his own received him not.”
While some on worshiping others are scheming. It is the way of the world. We cannot stop the world from being evil; We must put our hands to the plow and not look back.
The parallel tracks of good and evil
Jesus said, “For the thief comes to kill, to steal, and to destroy; but I have a come that they might have life and have it more abundantly.”
Cain had his own path and Able had another. Satan has his own children and God has his own.
Do not be distracted, or fearful by the enemies work.
Evil will grow worse and worse. This should distinguish the children of light from the children of darkness.
I think the greatest tool in evangelism is to shine brightly in the darkness. By letting Christ shine within us, we overcome the darkness. By our faithfulness, we expose Satan’s weakness. By staying fixed on our purpose, we destroy Satan’s agenda.
While Satan’s work came through the Scribes and Pharisees, God’s work continued in an unnamed woman.
Mark 14:3 NIV
While he was in Bethany, reclining at the table in the home of Simon the Leper, a woman came with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, made of pure nard. She broke the jar and poured the perfume on his head.
Instead, we should be centered on our purpose on our task. Nehemiah never took his eyes off the wall. Jesus never lost sight of his purpose. Our focus should be contentment. One of those trying to provoke me, I shall respond with goodness.
We don’t have time to focus on wickedness; we must festival on festival.
The feast of unleavened bread reminded the children of Israel to eat in haste. I have no time to worry about what Satan does. I refuse to come down from the Wall. I am doing a good work. I refuse to be distracted by people who plot and plan evil.
No one can make us take our eyes of Christ the king.
Psalm 2:2–4 NIV
The kings of the earth rise up and the rulers band together against the Lord and against his anointed, saying, “Let us break their chains and throw off their shackles.” The One enthroned in heaven laughs; the Lord scoffs at them.
Instead of focusing on the schemes of the enemy, I’d rather bow down before the savior and give him my greatest worship, share the oil of my love and reverence, honor his name with all my heart, glorify him and extol him with all that is within me. the Psalmist asked,
Ps. 24:3-4 “Who may ascend the mountain of the Lord? Who may stand in his holy place? The one who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not trust in an idol or swear by a false god.”
Let those who follow Satan do their best.
We look forward to the celebration of the Passover.
We Look to the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. We look forward to Calvary. I join the songwriter:
I shall forever lift mine eyes to Calvary…
I look forward to the day when We shall eat at the Marriage Supper of the Lamb.
I look for the day when everyone who worships Jesus is saved, sanctified, healed, glorified, dressed in victory.
When ten thousand and thousands of thousands will sing, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain.
