MESSAGE #:

TITLE: “Seven Resolutions For the Church To Make For The New Year”

TEXT:  Revelation 2:4, 10, 14-15, 20;  3:1-2, 8, 15-18

ETS:- The Lord calls for the churches to become fully committed to Him.

ESS: Believers must become fully committed to Christ if the church is to be committed to Him.

OSS: Believers will commit to living out seven resolutions for the coming year.

UW: Resolutions

PQ: What resolutions can I make to help me grow closer to the Lord in the coming year?

INTRODUCTION:

I.  I WILL MAKE MY LOVE RELATIONSHIP WITH CHRIST TOP PRIORITY IN THE COMING YEAR (2:4).” Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love..”

A. By making my daily time alone with him a priority.

B. By making pleasing him with my thoughts, words and actions a priority.

II.  I WILL SEEK TO BE FAITHFUL TO CHRIST IN ALL AREAS OF MY LIFE IN THE COMING YEAR (2:10). “Do not fear any of those things which you are about to suffer. Indeed, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and you will have tribulation ten days. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life..”

A. I will seek to be faithful in my family life.

B. I will be faithful in my social life.

C. I will be faithful in my professional life.

D. I will be faithful in my personal life.

III.  I WILL REFUSE TO COMPROMISE BIBLICAL STANDARDS OF LIVING TO FIT IN WITH THE WORLD IN THE COMING YEAR (2:14-15).

“But I have a few things against you, because you have there those who hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balak to put a stumbling block before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed to idols, and to commit sexual immorality. Thus you also have those who hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitans, which thing I hate.”

A.    I will refuse to compromise on the Biblical standards of personal integrity.

B.     I will refuse to compromise on the Biblical standards of personal purity.

C.    I will refuse to compromise on the Biblical standards of personal stewardship.

IV.  I WILL REJECT THOSE WHO SEEK TO MISLEAD GOD’S  PEOPLE DOWN THE PATHWAY THAT LEADS TO REBELLION (2:20). “Nevertheless I have a few things against you, because you allow that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, to teach and seduce My servants to commit sexual immorality and eat things sacrificed to idols”

A. Rebellion against God’s Word.

B. Rebellion against God’s Direction.

V.  I WILL CHOOSE TO FOLLOW THE WAY OF LIFE AND VITALITY INSTEAD OF ALLOWING SPIRITUAL DEATH TO SET IN (3:1-2).

“I know your works, that you have a name that you are alive, but you are dead.Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die, for I have not found your works perfect before God..”

A.    By actively seeking the presence of God in private worship.

B.     By actively seeking the presence of God in public worship.

C.    By actively seeking the presence of God in practical service.

VI.   I WILL TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE OPEN DOORS OF MINISTRY AND SERVICE THE LORD GIVES TO ME IN THE COMING YEAR (3:8).

“I know your works. See, I have set before you an open door, and no one can shut it; for you have a little strength, have kept My word, and have not denied My name.”

A.    Recognizing that Jesus is the one who opens doors of service.

B.     Responding to the open door of service with enthusiasm.

VII.  I WILL REJECT LUKEWARM, INDIFFERENT, AND SELF-SATISFIED ATTITUDES IN MY SERVICE TO MY LORD (3:15-18).

“I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth.Because you say, ‘I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing’ —and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked— I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see..”

A.    Recognizing that lukewarmness is the enemy of the commission Christ has given us.

B.     Remembering that lukewarmness will bring about the failure of all of the resolutions we make for serving Christ.
