Notes
Transcript
commitment (message)Noun Sense
a message that makes a pledge. Vow- Allegiance
Commitment to Jesus Christ is grounded in the knowledge of his saving power and divinity, and expresses itself in adoration and obedience to Jesus Christ.
Military Story- Water
Jesus was 100 percent man and 100 percent God. We learned of that on last week as we celebrated palm Sunday, and Jesus in the garden of Gethsemane. Not my will be done, but your will.
1. Christ was committed to die as a payment for sin
Romans 5:6-8
2. Christ was committed to reconciling us to God
Romans 5:9-11
3. Christ was committed to give us eternal life
Romans 5:12, 18-21
Commitment means that certain decisions are made in advance, irrespective of the circumstances: “I will honor Christ, whatever the pain and whatever the cost. I will obey God’s word, even when that is the hardest thing to do. I will do what God has called me to do, when it is draining as well as when it is fulfilling.” There is no other way to follow Christ.
Mark’s gospel is written to those who want to know what it takes to follow Jesus. Mark wrote it to the disciples, but he was not one of the disciples. Matthew and John were disciples but Luke and Mark were not they followed people who followed Jesus. Mark was one of Peter’s disciples. We don’t meet Mark in the Bible until the Book of Acts. (Acts 12:5-19) and 1 Pet 5:13 They became intimate. What we read in Mark is what Peter shared with Mark and Mark wrote for all to read. This is a reminder that we must share our story with the next generation.
Mark 2:2-5, 11-12
Peter tells a story of a day when Jesus was at his house. There were people inside the house outside the house. There were so many people coming that they literally filled up the streets. On that day, something miraculous happen a man who had legs that did not work went home with a pair of legs that didn’t work. What was so miraculous about this was that he was brought there by four people who were committed.
To make sure that their friend's life was forever changed. For men who were committed to getting their friend who was in need in front of the one who could meet that need. This was the miracle of commitment. If anything that is lacking in this world more than anything it is commitment.
The one thing that Peter learned In his three-year relationship with Jesus, was the difference between curiosity and commitment. When Peter first met Jesus, he was curious about Jesus Peter was a fisherman, and Jesus was a carpenter, and the carpenter told the fisherman I see you have not caught any fish. Why don’t you go back out there and fish on the other side of the boat (Luke 5:4-6). Peter is now curious about Jesus and how he could probably help his business because he realized he knew how to fish.
Before we judge Peter for taking action on his curiosity, how many people do we know today just come to church or serve or hang around the Bible because of what they think Jesus could do for them in their lives and how much more they could receive blessings from him to make their lives better. Trying to figure out how much Christ can pour into them without giving anything back. Peter started out curious but he learned what commitment was all about you say commitment is not what we say but what we do. Peter spoke words of commitment on the ninth that Jesus was arrested. Peter said I’ll die for you. (Luke 22:33). Just a few hours later before the cock crowed Peter denied him three times. When it became time to take action, commitment took off. Why because there’s nothing convenient about commitment.
As long as it is convenient, it is not commitment it’s comfortable, but it’s not commitment. How many things in this world suffer because of a true lack of commitment? Examples of the abandonment of commitment, marriages, careers, families dreams. Commitment is the thing that opens up the windows of heaven and to have blessings poured out in your life. Jesus said it like this in Matt 10:38 whoever does not take up, his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. Whoever is not committed will not receive.
Mark 10:29-30-Read verse what was he talking about in these verses' commitment?
Tell Them the story of how they tore your mother’s roof off. Luke 5:17 and the power of the Lord was present to heal them. The interesting part is out of all of the people that were there only one person was healed. Why because there is a difference between curiosity and commitment. There were a lot of people out there at peters home who was curious of this Jesus. That still happens today. Millions of people are gathering in churches all around the world and even online that are just like the people who were at Peter’s home curious. What can Jesus do for me? Let me tell you your curiosity will get you close to Christ but nothing in your life will change until you are committed to Christ. You will not know the real relationship with Christ until you have committed your heart soul mind and body to Christ.
Only the committed get to see the mountains moved only the committed receive the breakthrough that they are looking for. Only the committed say to Jesus is off for you. I’ll go where you want me to go. I’ll do what you want me to do. Those are the ones who, discover that with men these things are impossible, but with God all things are possible.
Mark 2:5- Read verse He saw something because he saw action. The action he saw showed that they believed. James 2:17 says faith without works is dead. You can’t talk about faith in God, you have to demonstrate faith in God. Faith is not 1 foot in 1 foot out or what I like to call the hokey pokey. Faith is all or nothing it is I have decided to follow Jesus no turning back no turning back. If non-go with me I’m going to follow. If the world turns against me I’m going to file if they kicked me out of the meeting I’m gonna follow if the HR department said I wanna talk to me. I’m gonna follow no turning back no turning back.
Faith requires commitment Dr. Tony Evans says it like this Faith requires believing that it is so even when it’s not so and then acting like it’s done. Why, because God said so
1 Pet 5:7 casting all your cares upon him, for he cares for you. In this story, we are told about four friends who loved the fifth. There is a Love within these for friends in which they decide today is the day. This is the day in which things are gonna change and this is the day in which we will not have to carry this burden any longer.
Every day bro we love you, but we have to carry you every day. We have to feed you we have to dress you we have to turn you every day and we know it’s not your fault, but we’re gonna take you to someone who’s gonna give you the strength to take care of yourself. As friends today, we know people who are paralyzed in their problems in their situations, paralyzed, financially, paralyzed, health-wise, paralyzed, even in their thinking. And what is paralyzing them is crippling you. Why because you’re trying to carry what do you need a cast? You’re trying to fix what you don’t have the power to do. Today, God is trying to give you permission to bring that person directly to him and say hey listen I love this person but I now cast him on you. I still love them I still care, but I’m just not gonna Carry it because you are the one who can solve it
.
Luke 5:18-19- they considered by what means they would bring him. They met before they start it and decided not to stop. Everybody had a part to play and we’re committed to it.
Mark 4- when they had broke through, they let him down some of you. Are this close to a breakthrough what’s gonna happen if I disrupt stuff what are people going to say? When you are committed you don’t care. Whatever it takes breakthrough. When you do let it go. Let it down and give it to Jesus. Mark 2:11 I say to you arise take up your bed and go to your house. That place where people used to go to check on you. They will now go to celebrate you. That mat that people used to use to carry you. You will now be waving it around the air to show them what God has done.
