OPENING PRAYER
God our Savior, you gave us your beloved Son, Israel's strength and consolation, hope of all the earth; you abandoned him to the agony of the cross, so that the abandoned people of the world might have life: Lift our hearts and bring us together beneath the cross, ready to leave behind our sin and fear, confident in the grace that brings us into your abiding love, for you will prevail and death itself will die. In the name of the Crucified One, whose victory is life. Amen.

PRAYER OF CONFESSION
PEOPLE Merciful God, we confess to you and to one another, that we have sinned in thought, word, and deed.
We have neglected your works of justice and mercy; we have failed to love our neighbors as ourselves; we have not loved one another as Christ has loved us; we have not forgiven others as we have been forgiven.
