In this passage we observe LOYALTIES to life.

I. We See His Direction. v.11

11 And it came to pass the day after, that he went into a city called Nain; and many of his disciples went with him, and much people.
Nain” - beauty; pleasantness
many of his disciples
Not all who start will finish with the Lord
We must follow Jesus (Romans 8:14)
We must believe Jesus (Mark 9:23; John 1:12)
We must obey Jesus (Luke 11:28)
We must honor Jesus (2 Corinthians 5:14-15)

II. We See His Decision. vs.12-13

12 Now when he came nigh to the gate of the city, behold, there was a dead man carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow: and much people of the city was with her.
only son
Occurs 7 times. This verse is the only NT occurrence and the last as well.
Another man cries for the Lord to heal his only son in Luke 9:38.
Then there is the phrase “only begotten son”
It occurs 5 times
Joh 1:18 No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.
Joh 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Joh 3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
Heb 11:17 By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son,
1Jn 4:9 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.
Every occurrence is of Jesus except one. The father in every passage had to be willing to place his son on an altar to die as a sacrifice for sin.
13 And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her, and said unto her, Weep not.
compassion
Psalm 86:5 KJV
For thou, Lord, art good, and ready to forgive; and plenteous in mercy unto all them that call upon thee.
Lamentations 3:22 KJV
It is of the LORD’S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.

III. We See His Dedication. vs.14-16

14 And he came and touched the bier: and they that bare him stood still. And he said, Young man, I say unto thee, Arise.
“bier” - a platform the coffin was placed
15 And he that was dead sat up, and began to speak. And he delivered him to his mother.
16 And there came a fear on all: and they glorified God, saying, That a great prophet is risen up among us; and, That God hath visited his people.
there came a fear on all
Why? Because it was the Lord’s power on full display
Jesus has the power over death, he’ll, and the grave

IV. We See His Declaration. vs.17-18

17 And this rumour of him went forth throughout all Judaea, and throughout all the region round about.
18 And the disciples of John shewed him of all these things.
Who goes back to their people and declares the Lord Jesus Christ?
People who have experienced the power of Christ and His life.
People who have experienced the plan of Christ and His life.

Conclusion:

Are you loyal to Christ?
