“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
because of which he has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me
to proclaim release to the captives,
and recovery of sight to the blind,
to send out in freedom those who are oppressed,
NT MEANING:
Freedom : Freedom is the state that emerges after God has acted to remove all hindrances—social, spiritual (sin and death), economic, and institutional—that block our creational purpose. This purpose is to know, love, worship, and enjoy God forever. This is a freedom that has been won for us by the death and resurrection of the Messiah. By the power of the Holy Spirit, We seeks to live in this freedom and to join with God in freeing others, while we await freedom’s full realization at Christ’s second coming (Rom 8:1–39).
What did the Victory on the cross do, it set me free?
What did the Victory on the cross do, it set me free?
A new nature of ourselves. Which can only be found in Chirst. The Cross gave me and you a new nature/new birth/new identity. One that is freedom from slavery to sin and fear.
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has passed away, and see, the new has come!
For both circumcision and uncircumcision mean nothing; what matters instead is a new creation.
kainos anthrōpos - New Creation (2 Cor 5:17; Gal 6:15) OR a new person.
For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be rendered powerless so that we may no longer be enslaved to sin,
What do I Gain from Jesus’ victory?
Freedom of slavery to sin, fear.
For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but one of power, love, and sound judgment.
We as a church have recieved HIS Spirit.
Freedom from living in Sin/Fleshly desires : Galatians 5:16-17
I say, then, walk by the Spirit and you will certainly not carry out the desire of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is against the Spirit, and the Spirit desires what is against the flesh; these are opposed to each other, so that you don’t do what you want.
we must stand against the desires of the flesh. The lfesh will continually opress and tempt us to go against our new nature in Christ.
Finally, be strengthened by the Lord and by his vast strength. Put on the full armor of God so that you can stand against the schemes of the devil. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers of this darkness, against evil, spiritual forces in the heavens. For this reason take up the full armor of God, so that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and having prepared everything, to take your stand.
The Holy Spirit : Acts 2:16-21
But this is what was spoken through the prophet Joel:
‘And it will be in the last days,’ God says,
‘I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh,
and your sons and your daughters will prophesy,
and your young men will see visions,
and your old men will dream dreams.
And even on my male slaves and on my female slaves
I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy.
And I will cause wonders in the heaven above
and signs on the earth below,
blood and fire and vapor of smoke.
The sun will be changed to darkness
and the moon to blood,
before the great and glorious day of the Lord comes.
And it will be that everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord will be saved.’
