Matthew 27:1–5 NKJV

You see to it! 5 Then he threw down the pieces of silver in the temple and departed, and went and hanged himself.
Intro: The life of Judas shows how close a person can be to Jesus, and still not be a Christian. He saw Jesus walk on the water. Raise people from the dead. Open the eyes of t he blind. He help pass the baskets to the multitude. He sat with him at the Last supper. He knew who Jesus was, but he never trusted him as his Lord.
Why did Judas sell Jesus out? Maybe Jesus wasn’t what he wanted him to be. Israel was under Roman rule. Elab what they expected out of their Messiah. (A King to come and rule the land, and wipe out the Romans)
Judas missed out on a lot. But it was not because of what he did, but what he didn’t do. The first thing we are going to look at that Judas miss out on is forgivenss.

3 Then Judas, His betrayer, seeing that He had been condemned, was remorseful and brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders,
1. When Judas saw that Jesus had been condemned (to judge worthy of punishment) brought remorse to Judas.
(Focus on Judas seeing Jesus condemned)
a. It may be that Judas didn’t expect Jesus to be condemned. Just a few days before he witnessed the shouting “Hosanna thou Son of David”
b. Maybe he expected some the people to raise up Agilent the leaders. Or maybe that Jesus to would deliver himself, but instead he saw Jesus condemned.
c. Judas repented himself: This means he regretted what he had done. He was troubled in his mind about what he had done.
d. It simply means a change of view concerning the matter. He felt sorry for what he had done, but it does not mean that he repented toward God.
VS 3b-4
Matthew 27:3–4 (NKJV)
3 Then Judas, His betrayer, seeing that He had been condemned, was remorseful and brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders,
4 saying, “I have sinned by betraying innocent blood.” And they said, “What is that to us? You see to it!
1. When Judas saw that Jesus was condemned to death, he was overwhelmed with remorse. He attempts to take back the money to those that had paid him for his evil deed.
I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood:
a. Judas had been with the Lord in public and in private, and if he had seen any flaw in his character this would have been the time to bring it up.
b. But in his heart he knew that Jesus innocent of any wrong doings.
c. Judas had heard the wonderful words of Jesus, but he had not received them.
d. It was only the blood of the innocent that could bring the forgiveness of sin.

Matthew 26:25 NKJV
25 Then Judas, who was betraying Him, answered and said, “Rabbi, is it I?” He said to him, “You have said it.”
c. Judas could have gone to Jesus instead of the religious leaders. He told them that he sinned but it meant nothing to them.
d. He should have gone to Jesus, and confessed his sins to him.
e. He could have thrown himself at the feet of Jesus and begged for forgiveness. But instead he went out and hanged himself.
f. Judas could have received forgiveness.
1. In order to receive forgiveness you must.
A. Admit you are a sinner. Rom 3:23 “For all have sinned “
Judas emitted that he had sinned. VS 4
B. You have to know that you sin is wrong, you have a sense of remorse for your sin. Judas did this. VS 3a
C. Then you must ask for and accept the forgiveness offered for your sins by faith. This is what was missing in the life of Judas.
3 Days later Jesus rose from the dead, but Judas was still dead. He missed out on the resurrection.
II. Resurrection: Mark 16:14
Matthew 28:5–8 NKJV
5 But the angel answered and said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. 6 He is not here; for He is risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. 7 And go quickly and tell His disciples that He is risen from the dead, and indeed He is going before you into Galilee; there you will see Him. Behold, I have told you.” 8 So they went out quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to bring His disciples word.
Mark 16:14 (NKJV)Later He appeared to the eleven as they sat at the table; and He rebuked their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they did not believe those who had seen Him after He had risen.
a. Jesus was on the earth for 40 days before he returned to the father.

b. Judas missed out on what came out of the resurrection, heaven.

John 14:1–6 NKJV
1 “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. 2 In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. 4 And where I go you know, and the way you know.” 5 Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way?” 6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
Easter. EAST. Direction. “I am the way” That is the only direction that will get you into heaven. Elab. On going east, it is eternal.
Conclusion:
a. Judas felt remorse so he hung himself, but if he would have received forgiveness he would have felt peace.
