Pray
Luke 23:34 KJV 1900
34 Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.
For centuries people have wondered why I said this phrase. There have been books about it, Sermons about it, and even articles trying to figure out what I was thinking.
I am here today, to tell why I did what I did.
It was a long night on Calvary.
One of the worst nights of my life.
I remember it like it was yesterday.
I had just left Gethsemane, having a gruesome prayer asking my father to take this cup away from me.
It was so bad, I was sweating droplets of blood.
Anxiety was creeping in.
It was really hitting me that I had to take this cup.
The God in me knew that I was the only hope.
But the human in me, did not want it to be so.
It was a long night I tell you.
After praying in the Garden one of my own disciples betrayed me with a kiss.
They took me away, to be mocked and beaten.
I was beaten so bad, that I could not even realize how I was still alive.
Most people wouldn't have even made it to the cross
I couldn’t see a thing, as I was blindfolded.
I was struck in the face and told to prophesy.
I get moved to face the sanhedrian
Then handed over to pontious pilate.
Then facing herod.
.It was a long night. and I said not a word.
They let a criminal go in my place. by the name of barabus.
Then they made me take his place.
Oh was I tired.
They beat me and beat me.
If you put a before and after picture, you wouldn’t even recognize me.
I was done badly.
A crown of thorns was placed on my head causing excruciating pain.
My lips were busted.
My eyes were blacked
My hands were nailed
My feet were ribboned
I was placed between two theives
with a sign that read this is the king of the Jews. I said not a word.
I am now hanging on a cross.
Hands hurting from the nails drilled in them.
I have open wounds in my back and the splinters from the wooden cross were hurting me.
I was humiliated
and As I got on the cross, I lifted myself up to speak. I take a deep breath, and The first thing that came out of my mouth was, “Father forgive them, For they do not know what they do.”
Now before I get into the forgiveness part. I want you to understand that after everything I had gone through, I still had enough sense to call on the Father.
That After everything that I was struggling with
The pain
The grief
The hurt
The breathing.
I still had enough fortitude to say Father.
And if you want to make it through some rough seasons of your life, you have to have sense enough to call on the Father. But that’s not where I want to go.
I said Father Forgive them.
I want to give three points of reference.
The first point of reference is:

The Place in which I said it:

You see most of the time, people do not forgive until the wounds have healed.
People do not forgive until time has passed.
People do not forgive until the emotions have subsided.
They do not forgive until time permits them.
The initiation of forgiveness is also the beginning of healing!!
You think that forgiveness starts after healing but really the healing starts after the forgiveness
I was not holding a grudge.
I was not fighting or arguing. I honestly wanted God to forgive them.
I really wanted God to let them off the hook. “Ill tell you why in a minute.”
and truth be told
we all have a them in our lives
one who lied on you
one who talked about you
one who misused you
one who did you wrong
But them is who pushed you to your purpose
The second point of reference is

The Persons for whom I said it

I said Father Forgive Them.
So many people wanted to know who “Them” was.
Them were the people who beat me
Them were the people who lied on me
Them were the people who let an innocent man be killed
Them were the people who plotted it
Them were the people who planned it
Them were the people who executed it
Them were the people who scandalized my name
Them were the people who did me bad
Them were the people who hurt me
Them were the people who messed me over
Them were the people who ruined my character
I said Father forgive THEM. AS IN ALL OF THEM. AS IN NOT JUST SOME OF THEM BUT ALLL OF THEM I NEED YOU TO HAVE COMPASSION ON.
AND THE LAST POINT OF REFRENCE IS.

The Purpose of which I asked

I said “Father forgive them” because they do not know what they are doing.
They didn’t know who I am
They didn’t know why I have come
They didn’t know what I am capable of
They didn’t know where I come from
They didn’t know I put the bark in the dog
They didn’t know I put the meow in the cat
They didn’t know that I am the alpha
They didn’t know that I am the omega
I wanted their guilt to be transformed as innocence based on the lack of knowledge.
They just didn’t know.
So father forgive them, because it’s not their fault.
They thought it was for my pain
But they helped fulfill my purpose
They thought it was for my demise
but it was for their development
They thought it was for my wrongs
but I let them do it to cover them from theirs.
They though I was gone stay like this.
They thought I wasnt gone com back from this
They thought it was over
But thanks be unto God.
That I am able today
That we are all living today.
Because of what THEY DID.
We are alive today.
Because of what they did.
FATHER FORGIVE THEM.
