What do you know about Psalms?

Psalms is the longest book of the Bible. There are 150 chapters. So if we’re going to preach through the whole book, chapter by chapter, it’s gonna take us 3 years. So let’s get started. Some of you are going to graduate before we get to the end of this. So I’m sorry if you sophomores and juniors don’t get to find out how the book ends.
I’m kidding. We’re not going to spend 3 years in the book of psalms. We are going to spend the rest of the school year, the next 9 weeks, in psalms.
The goal here is not to memorize the book but to learn how to read and appreciate it. Really, I want you to learn how to turn to the book of Psalms in those moments of such high emotion that you don’t know what to say, every emotion that you have ever felt or will ever feel...

…there’s a Psalm for that.

How often do you find yourself in those moments where whatever it is you’re overwhelmed by some kind of emotion that makes you think God would never understand what you’re dealing with right now. He’s too perfect. He couldn’t possible get it.
Do you find yourself in those situations that cause you to think “the Bible has nothing about my current situation!”
I assure you, no matter what emotion you’re feeling, there’s a Psalm for that. With 150 of them, they hit just about every emotion in the rainbow. The Psalms express openly some of the most dark intrusive thoughts that human beings can ever experience and express the absolute heights of joy, the likes of which few have ever know...and still leave room to cover everything in between.
So in those moments when you can’t sleep from either sorrow, anticipation, overwhelming joy, intoxicating levity, where you don’t know the words to pray to express what you’re feeling, I want to show you how to turn to the book of Psalms and find the words to express what is in the depths of your soul.

So, what exactly is this book

Poem's Prayers & Promises

That’s what it is, this is the secret diary where the nation of Israel wrote poems about all of its most intimate feelings about God and about their situation.
This is the Poems, Prayers, and Promises of the people of God.
This should not be read like a normal story. or even like any other book of the Bible.
