Biblically & Historically we know that the Israelite nation was enslaved by the Egyptian Empire for a period of 400 years.
A couple of interesting tidbits:
A couple of interesting tidbits:
The Israelites (Jews) were the people that God chose to be His people
Egypt, in the Bible, is viewed as a representation of the Godless (“Yahweh”) dominant culture of the present day.
After 400 years of slavery to the Godless culture of the day, God broke His people out of slavery in order to bring them into their abundant-life destiny.
God convinced the reluctant Egyptian Empire to release their long-standing slave labor force by bringing 10 plagues against the empire that all but destroyed it completely while thoroughly protecting the Israelites.
We pick up the account where God is instructing His people on how to be protected from the final plague of the Destroyer Killing every first born in the Empire.
12 ‘For I will pass through the land of Egypt on that night, and will strike all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the Lord. 13 Now the blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you; and the plague shall not be on you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt.
21 Then Moses called for all the elders of Israel and said to them, “Pick out and take lambs for yourselves according to your families, and kill the Passover lamb. 22 And you shall take a bunch of hyssop, dip it in the blood that is in the basin, and strike the lintel and the two doorposts with the blood that is in the basin. And none of you shall go out of the door of his house until morning. 23 For the Lord will pass through to strike the Egyptians; and when He sees the blood on the lintel and on the two doorposts, the Lord will pass over the door and not allow the destroyer to come into your houses to strike you.
2 Important things to notice:
2 Important things to notice:
Each person was responsible to apply blood in the right way to the doorway of the home they would be inside of -
They were not forced to do it
They had to believe it would actually work
The Destroyer didn’t ask who was inside that house or whether they were good or bad or deserved to be spared - The Destroyer was only looking for the blood.
The Current Story:
The Current Story:
There is someone who desperately wants to destroy us & our destiny - Satan
10 The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.
The Good News is that Jesus wants to preserve our life and destiny and see us walk in His abundance.
1 Corinthians 5:7b (NKJV)
For indeed Christ, our Passover, was sacrificed for us.
18 For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.
In other words, Jesus’s blood was the perfect completion of the foreshadowing we saw in the land of Egypt.
It is Jesus’ blood we choose to apply on the doorway of our heart that causes destruction and death to pass over us.
23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
Just One Thing:
Just One Thing:
Jesus causes destruction to pass over us when we apply His precious blood to the doorway of our heart as our Savior and Lord daily.
2 But they found the stone rolled away from the tomb. 3 Then they went in and did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. 4 And it happened, as they were greatly perplexed about this, that behold, two men stood by them in shining garments. 5 Then, as they were afraid and bowed their faces to the earth, they said to them, “Why do you seek the living among the dead? 6 He is not here, but is risen! Remember how He spoke to you when He was still in Galilee,

Discussion Questions:
When was the last time you stayed up through the entire night?
What are some of the thoughts that you have about Jesus being our Passover that apply to your life personally?
Please read Exodus 12:12-13 and share some of your thoughts about the fact that God is willing to destroy things in order for you to have freedom. (Perhaps consider how daily life was impacted for the Israelites as a result of the Passover)
How do you think and feel regarding God not checking on the quality of the person behind the blood-marked door?
